This is global "news hour at 6:00". >> Good evening, it's been a busy 24 hours for police in our city. We begin with an officer involved shooting in the city's north end. It happened last night at a shell gas station 93rd street and 144 avenue. Police say an on duty officer walked into the business just before 8 p.m., and encountered a man with a weapon. According to E.P.S. a confrontation occurred before the officer fired his gun striking the man. He was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries. No officer was injured during the incident. The police also say they found a taser at the scene. The alberta serious incident response team is now investigating. >> Police releasing new details on another shooting that took place saturday night near southgate mall. E.P.S. responded to the parkade of an apartment complex on 108a street just before 6 P.M. after reports of gunshots. When officers arrived they found a 29-year-old man with a gunshot wound. He was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The firearms unit is investigating.

>>> This was the scene earlier at a liquor store in the beverley neighbourhood. This black sheep jeep crashed into the store front which is at 117th avenue and 34th street. A global news crew was told that a staff member and the driver suffered injuries. One person was taken to hospital. >>> Alberta health services has lifted a boil water advisory for the town of millet. The advisory had been in place since friday afternoon following a water plain break. Water was shut off in the community for a few hours while repair work was completed. The town says residents can now drink water as normal. >> The president of the university of alberta is sound further pressure tonight. The body that oversees one of the university's biggest faculties has passed a vote of northern confidence in his leader. Eric bay bay joins us from the newsroom. The press has come under fire for his handling of a pro-palestinian encampment early are this month. >> That's right, you'll remember demonstrators had been gathering on the university campus earlier this month in response to israel's actions in gaza. Protesters were then forcibly removed by edmonton police officers with the province saying it had received reports of injuries. On thursday, the council that overseas the faculty of arts passedded a non-confidence vote in flanagan's leadership. The vote does not trigger his removal. That decision lies with the university's board of governors. But flanagan is seeking a second term as president with his current term due to expire next summer. >> President flanagan is no longer supportive by Mr. People in the university of alberta community. It's not clear how he's going to lead that community, and I think there's a very strong sentiment that he needs to stop defending the encampment sweep to admit it was a terrible mistake. >> Students that took part in protests against flanagan's leadership were also present at a pro-palestine rally outside the legislature today. Some of the demonstrators are members of a group called the people's university for palestine. They want university leaders to declare support for a cease-fire and to cut ties with businesses and investments that support israel. It's not just the university of alberta they're targeting. >> We're demanding the same, that we have been across the river, over here and McUNION is in a unique position to be first in the city to meet these demands. >> Global news has reached out to flanagan's office for comment but has not yet received a response.

The stars walked away with a 3-1 win in dallas last night. The series is now tied a game apiece and flips over to edmonton for the next two, and as the team is ready to be back on home ice. >> That would be the one to push the stars past the oilers in game 2, and they would add an empty netter. Certainly not the result the team was hoping for. Captain connor mcdavid says the loss comes after a strong first period. >> Thought it was close all game long. We had a good start,. >> Reporter: for most of game 2 the oilers and stars were evenly matched but it wasn't enough to walk away with the win. >> Going into the third you know it's going to be one of those, it's a shot from the blueline, a tip, a greasy goal, if you will but they obviously got it. We couldn't capitalize towards the end. >> Reporter: the ice district was packed saturday night as thousands of fans cheered on the team from home who now anxiously await their return. Sunday morning the coach says this isn't a bad position to be in: >> You win the first you always want to win the next. It's nice we're coming back to edmonton where it's our crowd at home. >> Reporter: the oilers outshot the stars in both games but so far they're not seeing their usual powerplay time. The stars have only taken three penalties this sears. Ryan nugent-hopkins knows they can't waste opportunities going forward. >> Every chance that you have you have to bear down as hard as you can. They're not going to all go in, but yeah, if you have a chance, you gotta bear down as much as you can because it could be the difference maker, in a game or even the series. >> Reporter: game 3 goes monday night and with the split series there's no red flags just yet. >> I don't think we need to panic. (cheers and applause) >> The M.S. walk was held this morning at rundle park. Partners raised funds ahead of the 5k walk. The money goes towards research trying to find a cause and cure foot auto immune disease. Canada has one of the highest rates of M.S. in the world. Attendees say events like this help bring those impacted by the condition. >> We all know someone with M.S. it affects the whole community and that's why it means so much to see the whole community here today. >> Our owner's family has been affected three generationings of auto immune disorders so it became personal for him, and then from there with all of our employees and the employees that have been touched by this, it became much bigger. >> M.S. has many symptoms ranging from a lack of coordination to vision problems. Funds raised also help support programs and services for albertans living with M.S. >> A unique graduation celebration was held in our city today. 16 service dogs graduated and are now ready to work with clients. The dog spent between two to three years training with docs with wings. The dogs who graduated today will go on to work in many different settings including kids with autism or as companions. Those who worked with the animals during training say today is a special moment. >> Today is the full circle moment that keeps me doing what I'm doing. It keeps me working with the dogs because I get to see them with their clients graduating. I think this is the best part of my job. Sometimes you worry when you give up the animal as a volunteer that they don't remember you but today when I saw him he was really happy to see me. I gave him lots of bets and he came and sat by me feet and he was happy to see me. So he does remember. >> The docs will now live and work with their clients. Once the dogs retire they usually go on to be adopted by the client.
