He has since been charged with second degree murder. Police say he and the victim knew each other. crash six years ago will face a deportation hearing in calgary today. Jaskirat singh sidhu was sentenced to eight years in prison after pleading guilty to causing the crash in saskatchewan. That killed 16 people and injured 13 others. His lawyer, michael greene, says there's no doubt the deportation order will be granted. Greene says he will ask that during today's virtual hearing, greene says he will ask that sidhus' permanent resident status be granted on humanitarian grounds. Alberta's recent cold, wet weather has reduced fire risk in our province. But officials warn that can change very quickly. 20 of those are still burning right now, there are 31 wildfires burning in our province. 20 of those are still burning from last season. All fires are under control or being held, including the fort mcmurray fire. Fire officials say conditions are favourable now. But it's important that we all continue to practice fire safety. 77 percent of fires this season have been caused by people. >> Todd loewen: despite our effort 25 fire. Compared to the 29,000 hectares this year. City council is discussing ways to help fund the ride transit program without increasing fees. The program allows low-income riders, who recieve aish or fall under similar criteria, to purchase a discounted transit pass. Administration says even though ridership is back to prepandemic levels. Fare revenue hasn't returned with it. Demand for the program has grown in recent years. Now council is looking for ways to increase its funding. >> Speaker: we know many are struggling so this greater need for these types of program so being able to look at is there additional funding and what >> Erin: a monthly increase of a other mechanisms can be used to ensure that the people that need this can access this? >> Erin: a monthly increase of a dollar is already planned for this is the program that was cut next february to reduce the gap.
