Cincinnati Bengals DE Trey Hendrickson requests trade

Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins isn’t the only standout who wants out of Cincinnati.

Bengals defensive end Trey Hendrickson has requested a trade, a person close to the situation confirmed to USA TODAY Sports. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter was the first to report Hendrickson’s trade request.

Hendrickson is due to earn $15 million this season. He is under contract through the 2025 season but the edge rusher is looking for more long-term security. The Bengals originally signed Hendrickson to a four-year, $60 million deal during free agency in March 2021 and gave him a one-year extension last July. He spent his first four seasons with the New Orleans Saints.

Defensive end Trey Hendrickson has made the Pro Bowl in each of his three seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Hendrickson is Cincinnati’s best pass rusher, tallying 39.5 sacks since he arrived. He had a career-best 17.5 sacks last season and has made three consecutive Pro Bowls.

The eight-year defensive end has 174 tackles, 59.5 sacks, 52 tackles for loss and 119 quarterback hits in 93 career games.

Hendrickson’s trade request comes a month after Higgins’ trade request in March. The Bengals placed Higgins under the franchise tag this year, but the wideout is seeking a long-term contract.
