From global news, carolyn MacKENZIE and jeff McARTHUR live from studio onet corus quay. [ Singing ]>> Carolyn: I know it's not saturday night but soon. A le throwback elton john on this tback thursday as we learn about a new album from elton john coming soon. eff: that's right. It's thursday, may 23rd, good morning, everybody, and welcome to canada's morni show. And yeah, sometty exciting news from elton's long-time songwriter partner bernie toppin. He said the album is complete, it's beenorded, no release date yet but pretty cool we might have some new elton john music. >> Carolyn: very cool, very cool. Not so cool, london drugs update, we were talking about this quite often on the show, ever since there was the cyberattack t, kind of thought it was all done because the stores opened up, pharmacies opened up. Not even close tong done. Ours ago, a ransom demand had been made for $25 million. London drugs is saying,o, not paying it, can't, won't, and now it's kind of a waiting game to see what happens.>> Jeff: they can't pay it or won't pay? Those are two different thing >> Carolyn: they are saying both. They're unwilling and they also -- $25 million, it's -- >> Jeff: I only ask that because that has been lthe crux of this whole situation when it comes to cattacks. London drugs, the latest victim of this. But there's been so many I know educational institutions, healthcare facilities as wellthat actually pay those demands because they don't want that sensitive information to be released and they lose public confidence but having said that, every time you do pay one of these ransoms, all of a sudden then you know t-- >> Carolyn: you encourage more >> Jeff: the fire, if you will. >> Carolyn: now it's kind o a waiting game to see what exactly is going to be put out, if something is going to be put out. They've informed employees it could be yourormation. They're not sure about customers' data but everyone's kindf just waiting, watching and waiting. >> Jeff: yeah, a lot of sensitive information at play here, right? Nobody wants their medical records, theirrescriptions and such out there in the public ether as it were. So we'llatch this story as it continues. Also continuing, we were talking about this yesterday on the show, airline cancellation fees with travel expert claire newell. Well, it looks like westjet is now urging the federal governme to immediately freezeany and all mandatory government fees charges and policies that increase travel costs for canadians saying that it's just making travel unaffordable, it's hurting the customer whe it comes to travelling and it's also hurtinghe airline, of course, because they're not reaching the profit potential. >> Carolyn: fair. How many times have you looked at a ticket and you see about half a dozen charges a fees and all of a sudden what you originally -- the ticketed price now double that because of all the fees. >> Jeff: been there, yeah. You see the ticket for $400 then all of the taxes and fees and all of that and all of a sudden it's double. But I will also say to the airlines there's a few fees there too that I'm paying tha weren't there just a few years ago. >> Carolyn: sure. >> Jeff: checked baggage. >> Carolyn: I mean, yes. When you put it all together, you're paying a lot in charges and fees.

we were talking about this earlier this week, the new measures the feds are putting into place to try and combat car thefn this country. We were talking insurance numbers, which we were blown away by. In the billions. >> Jeff: I think it's $1.5 billion just last year it cost iance companies when it comes to carjackings stolen vehicles. >> Carolyn: right. So out in the last 24 hours, interpol confirms canada ranks among the world's top ten countr for auto theft. Since february, they have been finding about 200 vehicles a week from canada. Nd the globe. >> Jeff: very interng. One of those found vehicles by the way is this canadian couple who recently hadheir car stolen. They eventually got it back, that's good news, you would think. >> Carolyn: but. >> Jeff: ite with some bad news. There is a but here. It also came with a parking ticket. Yes, that's right, there was a parking ticket on the windshield. This couple from montreal, theyhad their car stolen back in ma and yeah, they were stunned to receive the car back with a parking ticket on it. It was dated five days after their vehicle was stolen which of course left the couple and I think many of us to wonder why wasn't thislagged when the ticket was issued?didn't they realize, police, this was a stolen vehiclet people were looking for and wanting back >> Carolyn: remember those measures we were talking about earlier in the week about communication between branches and the reporting of such things? Case in point. >> Jeff: not only that, but this car was ticketed just seven kilometres from where it was stolen. So it wasn't even that farm home. >> Carolyn: gosh.all right. Things have make go m'hm. Wee talking about this last week on the show. Well, it is official. Toronto has been awarded the first wnba franchise outside of the U.S. >> Jeff:S you mention, it is official as of today. D play will begin in the 2026 season. It's very exciting. This is the 14th team for the wnba so congratulations to ronto. And for canada really, because we h supported women's basketball, we've had sold-ou exhibitions both in toronto and edmontonthe past for the wnba. And it's great to them come north of the border. >> Carolyn: super cool. People are really hopping on-board including the former raptors V.P. theresa rush. She stepped down from her current role with the raptors last week to hop on this t here. So look forward to see w comes of this. >> Jeff: congratulations. Hon the heels of king charles' portrait, a new painting of kate middleton is also drawing mixed reaction from royal fans after it was released yesterday. Here it is, the controversial piece featured on tattler magazine's july cover, part of a series of portraits of the royal family. The artist appearing to take inspiration from the pess of wales outfit at a novr state banquet in 2022, the first under king charles' reign. When the piece was finished (a) lot of people on instagram saying I'm not so sur that this is kate, that this really captures the essence of kate. >> Carolyn: wellou know what, art is very interpretive. Look at -- when picasso, when he was painting, I'm sure everyone looked at his work and was like is that me? Is that ry my likeness? >> Jeff: could you imagine if there was social media in the days of picasso? What people would have been saying. Opinion, just like king charles' portrait, very divided here, a lot of peoplealling it a poor portrait saying it's laughable, are we being pranked, is this some sort of a joke and others thinkt's a very good interpretive piece of art. >> Carolyn: exactly. A million dollars was handed out on last night's "survivor" season finale. Take a look. [ ] >> The winner of survivor 46... >> Jeff: there it is, big night last night here on global with the season 46 finale of survivor. Kenzie petty took home the title of sole survivor and the million dollars that goes with it and here in a tms exclusive this morning, kensy joins us now. Look at the smile on her face. Kenzie, congratulations. How does it pretty indescribable. It feels amazing. I'm overwhelmed with gratitude and p and it's unbelievable really. >> Carolyn: oh, gosh, and kenzie, you start wone of the worst performing tribes ever and emerg without the numbers, did you think you had a chance after those first few immunity challenges? >> You know, you always have a chance in "survivor" if you know how to spin it. So I never gave up. I think that's what got me to
