Splendid weather we are having. nnouncer: don't miss our sit-down w some of the leading ladies of the latest on of "bridgerton." >> Carolyn: we are bombarded with so many new fashion trends every season, it is hard to know which ones worth adding to your wardrobe. >> Jeff: all right. Know how to wear them. That's where natalie sexton comes in. She is here to show us ways to wear some sometimes tricky trends. Natalie, good morning to you. >> Good morning. >> Jeff: we're starting with one of your favourite things. The will toney saver. >> Are we ready for it? I'm sha tricky trends today including pieces that we're seeing trending in t spring and summer months. And hs something to keep in mind when you are going to purchase of these tricky items. I want you to be able to s it three different ways.so you have to think of three different outfitsr three different occasions that you could actually wears esthetic or this certain piece. Otherwise, it's a one-hitf it's a bargain price, it's a waste of money. >> Carolyn: that's smart, super smart. The first trend we'reoing to tackle is athletic pants dressed up. >> I love t vibe so much. I brought you s street style today. These are some different bloggers and TIKTOKers, instagramers that I follow andget inspo from all the time. We are seeing the adidas pants resurging right now like crazy, like whether it's done in a really fun colour. I love the way that it's styled here. Ths like taking it to the streets a stylish way but we're going to think about itoutside of the box. So I've done a very similar look in studio here today. Normally, we might wear this with maybe a simple tank and a pair of adidas sneakers.but I did it in a really simple and chic way and these a pieces that you probably have in your wardrobe alre so an oversized white tee. And then topping it with a blazer. So something that's a little bit more on the tailored side so you have that juxtaposition of like that athleisur slightly oversized pant but then we make it look a little more chic and then I thought maybe do it with a pair of white pumps. Think about styling these pants exactly how you would s a dressy trouser. And just play around with different pieces. This is something that you c take to the office or like to a girls bh but definitely have some fun with this look.do you guys like it? >> Carolyn: I'm a littln the fence. >> Okay. >> Carolyn: I think I would keep a sneaker for me. I like throw the -- >> So maybe classic -- >> Carolyn: would that be to stripes? >> Not for me but how about a classic plain white sneaker. >> Carolyn: sure. >> Jeff: I really like the ntrast, when you can mix it up. >> Doing something reallyigh end and then athleisur it's definitely a great way to show your personal style, hav some fun or take a picture, put it on instagram and wear your white sneakers after. >> Jeff: this summer is all about longer shorts. They're everywhere and they can sometimes be tricky to style. >> Yeah. D especially for somebody on the petite side like me, sometimes I struggle with shorts like this so think about styling them like you would style a midi skirt. The key is we want to do something not super tight to the body, that's going to create a really long line. I want you to do maybe a neutral colour or if you're going to do a pattern, we're going to style it with really classic, chic pieces. I've brought you a lookn studio today. So these s actually aritzia, the effortless p have been one of those things that a lot of people are adding to their wardrobe. They're doing them trouser short now. I like this length because I feel like this flatters sort of any height. Not quite mid-knee. That's ally tricky one to pull off unless you're like six

tall. So something that hits just above the knee again like we're seeing here, guys, not skin tight the body. You want it to have a littl bit of flow to it and then pair itwith those classics. This is something that you could ar to the office, like these shorts, simple tank and maybe a pair of sneakers, fantastic. But we can top it with a blazer or leather shack et shacket and a kitten heel. Just to elongate dresses it up for special occasions, we can do shorts.>> Carolyn: another trend we're seeing, tennis-inspired fashion. >> Tennis-inspired fashion. Tennis core is huge right now thanks to zendaya and the challengers movie but it can be trickier to wear. We don't necessarily want to look like we're heading to the courts so I want you to pull inspiration f tennis core. Think preppy style, you know, varsity style, we're seeing polo shirts, pleated skirts, in studio today, I want to show you something really simple here. Here's a knit dress, this one was from zara, under $50, not breaking the bank. This is from my closet, she's got longer legs than me so this is little shorter on our mannequin but you couldo little shorts underneath as well. We're also pullingrom great colours that we see in tennis. I loved this bag from brave ather, really great canadian company, but it's like the tennis ball. I thought another way to incorporate that into the mix. Neons, classics, and then really great collection with roger fed, all tennis inspired really beautiful sne there's your classic white snr that you could do with the adidas pant. >> Carolyn:RE you go, let's do it. >> Jeff: all right. Finallou're going to show us how to pull off the yachting esthetic. >> I thought of you here, jeff.i thought you're kind of doing this today. Maybe you're not heading to the french riviera this sr and we just want to rock this lookon the weekends or to the office, a couple of things t keep in mind are fabric. So lots o linen, jeff, you're doing thatted to. Those classic stripes. Navy. This I such an easy look to pull off k of for any occasion, too. In studio, I want to show you a little bit more of a monochromatic option, I think this is easy to style. So instead ooing a tee underneath, I liked a polo, I thought this is really nice from dewar, another great canadian brand. And a simple navy pant, a long stream lined look. Maybe cuff them at the ankle to sailing, yachting vibe and a linen shirt. A couple of linen shirts in anybody's wardrobe, these are go for me over a swimsuit, over a top lobbying this, classic stripe like this andclassic white as well and then I thought thesees were fun, too. We're seeing boat shoes and kind of preppy shoes come back for men and for women. This is native footwear and that's from another great canadian brand in the m here also. >> Jeff: that's a slip-on? >> That's a slip-on and totally recyclable, when you're done them back and they will recycle them for you. >> Carolyn: oh, cool. >> Yeah. >> Carolyn: neat, there we go. >> Got you covered. >> Carolyn: tackling the trends this spring. Thank you, nat. >> Thanks, guys. >> Carolyn: after the break, celeigh cardinal returns to tms studios to talk about the inspiration behind soulful new album" boundless possibilities"" [ Singing ] 9-1-1, what's your emergency? [ Singing ] >> Jeff: that is award-winning indigenous artist celeigh cardinal's wandering river off her brand-new album boundless possibilities. >> Carolyn: for three western canadian music awards and shens us now. Welcome back to tms. >> Thank you. >> Carolyn: congratulations on these nominations. >> Thank you. >> Carolyn: hoes it feel? >> It feels amazing, it's great it's the validation that an artist needs. Perfect. >> Jeff: allight. Let's talk about the brand-new album, because you've desed this album as vulnerable and truthful. Tell us a bit more about it and what fans expect. >> Oh, well, it is quite vulnerable. And it's kind of an explora of grief. This album was supposed to come outn 2019. And ended up having to push it andn push it again for many years so 2020 was 2020 and the experiences that I went through involved a lot of grief. Everybody went through a lot of grief so that really came out in all this music so, in aay, it's kind of a release of all of that, so it's kind of celebratory at the same time like joyful. Carolyn: that's what you say about your songs, y say they're sad songs but I still want you to h fun. >> Yeah, that's it. I'm a sad girl, but I like thefun. >> Carolyn: but that's life, though, too, right, is that not like you to find the silver lining through it all? >> Like without the darkness, there would be no light, youknow. Like this is the human rience. And it's just speaking on all of it, and it's not all sad songs. There aree like happy love songs in there, but it'st kind of -- it's everything that I've been through in the last few years. >> Jeff: tell u about I guess your evolution as an artist, do you feel like this is an evolution, this album, for you? >> It is truly. Bee I'm a little bit older now, and I'm in my 40sND I'm very, very excited to just sort of do whatever I want to do whenever I want to do it. And that includes creating pop music, so I'm kind of in my madonna era right now. >> Carolyn: okay. Okay. All right. How excited are you to perform this new music to an audience live? >> Oh, yeah, it's so fun.there are some of the songs that do -- they are so emotional that I have barely been able to m it through without crying so I try to avoid those ones if I have a lot of mascara on, you know. But really, it's so fun to change u the music that I've been playing for a while. It's fun, some of the songs are kind of poppy and it's fun to move my body and dance a little bit. >> Carolyn: okay. >> Jeff: what is your hope, what do you hope fans take away from experience either at the show or from the album? I lov the title "boundless ssibilities," what do you hope that your fans take away from it? >> I want people to feel all of the feelings. What I love about my shows is th I tell a lot of jokes, ising sad songs, there's like -- it's just sort of this release of like all the feelings that you can possibly have and we laugh together, cry together, it's just basically like a rollercoaster of emotion and I just want people to have that release that we all need. >> Carolyn: my dad just puts on music and we just dot, and that's the great thing about music. Check this out, it's called "boundless possibilities," it is available june 21st. That's when it drops. Leigh cardinal, always a pleasure. Thank you for stopping by. >> Thanks for having me. Nice to be here. >> Jeff: and coming up next, it's a travel series for the senses. Christa couture shares the sights, sounds and taste of
