Since opening its doors in february 2023, the private clinic has been offering a subscription based nurse practitioner led service. >> It's an additional option to people who are seeking primary health care, who otherwise have no other venues. >> Generally speaking, that patient will see the same nurse practitioner or nurse every time that they come in. So it's not like a walk in clinic. It's more like a the old fashioned doctor's office. >> The monthly cost of the subscription is about $30 for adults, and patients are also charged per visit. Stevens was inspired to launch bluenose health after losing its family doctor and struggling to access primary care. Stevens says the clinic's client base has steadily climbed since opening, but many of bluenose health's patients have complex needs. >> Not having a primary health care home is very challenging for many people, especially if you have a chronic health disease. It is very challenging because you need routine care. >> Although some private insurance companies reimburse for the services offered, stevens says expenses are generally out of pocket. We have ongoing discussions with with the department of health of potentially maybe reimbursing our patients directly for the services that, that, that, that we're supplying them. In a statement, the province says it believes in a publicly funded health care system where nova scotians can get the care they need. It also warns a potential risk, saying the department of health has no oversight over private providers. The province says the updated formula better reflects the financial pressures faced by students amidst increased cost of living. It includes a higher living allowance, which could help students qualify for more assistance. The formula also aligns the provincial student assistance program with the federal program. Students can now apply for assistance through the my path system for the 2024 to 25 academic year, the immigrant services association of nova scotia held its first ever employer forum in halifax today. The sold out event aims to connect provincial employers and newcomers who are eager to enter the workforce. In addition to networking, the forum featured programs that encourage participants to share their stories and challenges. Isans says it's all about learning and collaboration, supporting employers, big and small, across nova scotia to diversify their workforce, support newcomer immigrant talent into their workplaces. >> We hope to help all industries, but especially those that are in construction and health care, you know, with new programs and immigration streams opening for them, we're here to support them. >> More than 150 employers participated in the employer forum. The event is set to take place annually, moving forward, nova scotia is rolling out more support to help industries transition to cleaner energy sources. The new clean fuels fund aims to help business sectors shift away from fossil fuels and embrace cleaner energy alternatives. The funds started last year and will see another $3 million investment later this year as part of the province's climate plan. The alternative energy options include biofuels and biomass. Green hydrogen, as well as renewable natural gas and eligible local projects can receive up to $1 million to cover up to 75% of project costs . There are new developments in the death investigation of actor matthew perry. It's been nearly seven months since the friends star was found dead at his los angeles home. Now, authorities are speaking with people close to perry in hopes of pinpointing who supplied him the drugs that caused his death. Chloe melas has more this morning, a new twist in the investigation into the death of friends star matthew perry, the lapd telling nbc news it's working with the drug enforcement administration and the U.S. postal inspection service to investigate the circumstances of perry's death. >> Perry was found unresponsive in a hot tub at his pacific palisades home in october. The L.A. county medical examiner's office says perry died from the acute effects of ketamine, a powerful anesthetic approved by the fda to treat depression under doctor's supervision. But the drug can also be used recreationally. The autopsy report states. Perry was on ketamine infusion therapy for depression and anxiety. He wrote about it in his 2022 memoir, ketamine felt like a giant exhale. >> They'd bring me into a room, sit me down, put headphones on me so I could listen to music, blindfold me, and put an iv in. >> But the autopsy report says the ketamine in his system could not have been from his last therapy session, which was a week and a half before he died. And the level of ketamine found in his blood was equivalent to the amount used for general anesthesia. Now, two sources close to perry, who say they've been interviewed by law enforcement as part of the investigation, tell nbc news authorities are trying to determine how perry came into possession of so much ketamine and want to track down any drug dealers in ketamine clinics that he used. >> Chandler is my name. Later in the afternoon . Soon there were some isolated showers here, the northumberland strait, but that's about it. We could use a soaking rain. So that's the first 30 degree high that we've had this season in the province. It will not be the last. The winds are coming in from the southwest.
