Nathalie sturgeon has the details. >> Poverty levels in new brunswick and nova scotia are not improving, according to a new report by food banks canada. The report gave failing grades to both provinces, each earning a d minus. >> Also reflects what we're seeing day to day, among persons with a mobility disability, people with a disability and single mothers are the two most impoverished populations in this province. So we're we're helping people navigate through, you know, these hardships every day here we have a d minus. >> So it's still a long way from being acceptable. >> In new brunswick, the poverty rate rose from 10.9, up from 6.7% last year. Similarly, in nova scotia, those living in poverty rose from 8.9 to 13.1. Food insecurity also rose for both provinces. It's not going to bring down that level. >> So one measure that nova scotia achieved was indexing income brackets to inflation. But food banks canada says a poverty reduction plan is needed in new brunswick. The organization is advocating for a revision of the poverty reduction strategy and to devote future surpluses to the cause. It's filed a sweeping antitrust lawsuit claiming live nation's monopoly is also squeezing out smaller promoters and hurting artists. The doj says live nation manages hundreds of artists and has a strong hold over more than 60% of concert promotions and spaces in the us. >> The result is that fans pay more in fees. Artists have fewer opportunities to play concerts, smaller promoters get squeezed out, and venues have fewer real choices for ticketing services. >> Live nation has come under fire for the fees. That includes, on top of ticket prices, as well as resellers and bots buying up tickets to popular events. Live nation says the lawsuit ignores the basic economics of live entertainment. Well, it's official the wnba is coming to canada. The women's professional basketball league confirmed thursday its latest franchise will be in toronto. The team will hit the court in 2026, and as mike drolet explains, basketball fans in three canadian cities will get a chance to watch them in person. >> Toronto. Welcome to the w. Thank you. >> It's somewhat ironic. The shortest person on the stage has been a giant when it comes to basketball in canada. Larry tanenbaum was instrumental in bringing the nba to toronto, and now, almost 30 years later, he's doing the same with the wnba. >> Many say women's sports is having a moment I disagree. Women's sports has arrived. It is a movement. The world is finally taking notice of something that's been there all along. >> It wasn't always so. Tammy sutton-brown played 12 years in the w and remembers the early 2000, when the league struggled to get exposure and the players barely made ends meet. >> The salaries. Can we just start there? The salaries are a lot different. I think there making probably two, three, four times what we made back in our day stays today. >> One of the hottest and most marketable athletes on the planet. Caitlin clark is set to begin her wnba career as the league celebrates attendance, broadcast and fan engagement records. >> When I joined the league, I think we had 80 games of our over 200 on national platforms. Last year, we had 205 of our 240 games on national platforms. If you build it, they will come. >> Absolutely, yes. >> I thought it was fake news, but we here, man, we here. >> There's certainly a buzz around women's sports that we haven't seen before. That in turn is changing the way sports marketing experts think. >> I credit them for saying this is this is not only the right thing to do, but it's a business decision. And the time is now and perhaps overdue to bring women's sport in this country. >> The team's home base will be in toronto, but they'll also play in vancouver and montreal. And yes, they'll be accepting input on the team name and colours from the public. But with first tip off, not until 2026. They have time to enjoy this historic day. >> Do hereby proclaim may 23rd, 2024 as wnba day in the city of

toronto. >> Mike deer-lake, "global news, toronto new video released thursday, nearly a week after the arrest of pro golfer scottie scheffler outside the pga championship, louisville police released footage of the arrest from two different cameras. >> A security camera and a police dash cam provide new angles, but the altercation between scheffler and the arresting officer is largely obscured. There is no police body camera footage because the officer did not turn on his device. >> We understand the seriousness of the failure to capture this interaction, which is why our officer has received corrective action for this policy violation. >> Scheffler was arrested last friday after he allegedly failed to follow police orders while arriving at the pga championship. He's facing several charges, including second degree assault of a police officer. Medical experts from across the country are raising concerns about delays in updating national cancer screening guidelines. The canadian task force on preventative health care is being asked to more frequently revisit its recommendations, especially as medical technologies rapidly evolve. Megan king has more. >> Waiting ten plus years for an update is just not acceptable anymore. >> It's been over a decade since national guidelines were made recommending women aged 50 and older should have access to mammography to screen for breast cancer. Since then, evidence showing that the age of breast cancer incidence is becoming younger has urged experts in the field to call on the canadian task force on prevention care that sets national guidelines to lower its recommendation to age 40. >> Absolutely, this will save lives. There is no question about it. The sooner that the breast cancer is detected, the earlier the stage, the much more, higher rate of cures that we can accomplish. >> While leduc is calling for equity on a federal level, many provinces have taken the change into their own hands. Nova scotia has its average risk age for screening mammography starting at 40. And that's not the only cancer. It's making its own decisions on lung-ns pei took nova scotia's high lung cancer rates into consideration when deciding to implement screening availability beginning at age 50, rather than the task force recommended age 55 discussing with partners vulnerable populations. >> Our mi'kmaq communities are our folks tend to start younger. And with that in mind, it we started here at 50 was the age. >> So what that creates is what we call a postal code lottery. So if you're in a province that does allow screening in the appropriate age group, you're lucky. And that actually goes against, the canada health act. And, it, it, it creates inequity. The coalition for responsible health care guidelines is calling for the restructuring of the independent, federally appointed task force and for accountability. >> A representative for the task force says it's working on a comprehensive evidence review for its upcoming draft guidelines on breast cancer screening. The draft recommendations are expected out later this spring. >> We sort of stand by helplessly and watch as they, create these guidelines that don't align with what experts know, you know, actually happens in reality. >> The coalition wants experienced specialists to be part of these crucial guideline decisions. Megan-king "global-news" halifax moncton is welcoming its first indigenous public art installation. >> It's a collaboration between mi'kmaq artist brian francis and fredericton artist jane hudson, titled spirit of reconciliation, the piece includes a five meter long sculpture in the shape of a birch bark canoe painted in bright red.
