The artwork created by uk-based artist jerry juddah depicts a blue splash of water and he says it reflects the power of water from above. It's another step towards the official opening of the bmo centre expansion which is set for early june. Spirit of water cost $2.5 million. And yeah. There it is. Another step forward to what is shaping up to be a pretty important building in our city. >> Bindu: I really like the colour. >> I was going to say that. >> Did you notice the building has got some of the same colour? >> It really plays off beautifully with the building. >> Tif, they're doing some work on their house so I've become very aware of colour palettes and everything and this colour palette works. >> Tiffany: I'm having a $2.5 million replica added. [Speaking simultaneously] >> Joel: neighbours will love that. >> Tiffany: the neighbours will love that. It's wild wednesday. Look at this photo. How stunning is this. I wouldn't want to be on the other side of the lens because that bison is giving you the stink eye. >> Leslie: is this also at your house? [Speaking simultaneously] bison farm at the acreage? >> Tiffany: that's my dream. For real. Mark kohlard, thank you for sharing this photo with us. We have rain over calgary. Looking quite ominous. Quite a bit of cloud cover over red deer. They had a bid of sun this morning -- a bit of sunshine this morning. Banff snowflakes and rain, 5°. Lethbridge looking beautiful, raining, 11°. Quite green. Teen temperatures in the west, out east heat. 30 in montréal and ottawa. Weather statements for some main arteries because of wintry conditions. There's a look at the system we're seeing for western canada. Out east there's a lot happening. Heavy rain and strong winds in parts of northern ontario, severe thunderstorm watches and warnings through parts of ontario and québec. Severe thunderstorm warnings sprinkled within that. There was a tornado warning a little bit earlier for bracebridge as well as aurilia. Quite a bit of active weather thanks to a front associated with this potent colorado low

that isn't only bringing them that tornado risk but also bringing some snowfall to parts of northern ontario. A mix of everything but it's a system we're watching very closely as it impacts our eastern provinces. Anybody jumping on a flight, that flight could be impacted if they're heading east. >> Leslie: rolling impact across the country. Are you still having the unicorn petting zoo? >> Tiffany: yeah, of course. >> Leslie: this is southbound 14 street approaching kensington in the northwest part of the city. One lane down here. Stretches back up to the bottom of the hill just up state. Single lane traffic travelling southbound on 14 approaching kensington, northwest part of the city. Expect some delays. You may want to pop over and take 10th instead. >> Joel: thank you. >>> Western canada's biggest ai conference is in our province then week. >> Bindu: thousands of ai experts, researchers, business leaders, and students are gathering at the edmonton convention centre sharing their knowledge on the ever changing industry. Jaclyn kucey has the latest. >> Reporter: the artificial intelligence and machine learning industry is one that continues to grow. >> At the same time there's a lot of questions about what the future of A.I. is going to be, what we want the future of A.I. to be as a society and we want as many informed voices bringing together different perspectives on that discussion. >> Reporter: alberta machine intelligence institute or amii is helping with a new day conference in edmonton called upper bound. Cam linke, ceo, says they're hosting around 5,000 people with backgrounds in sectors including health, government, business, and art. >> For us to bring together this broad section of the entire ai community, yeah, I really think it's the only conference out there that does that. >> Reporter: gillian was a teacher for seven years and left teaching to expand educational technology. She works at amii developing a strategic plan to increase ai literacy in alberta schools. >> That really means starting with the teachers and empowering teachers with the ai literacy skills they need to support students. >> Reporter: she says the first step to literacy is understanding what is artificial intelligence. >> People need to recognize that we already trust these systems with a lot of our everyday tasks and things that we do and so getting down to learn a little bit more about the technology at play I think will help alleviate some of that fear. >> The curiosity and interest from different researchers or students or technical folks is just expanding. >> Reporter: tiffany has been with flying fish partners based in seattle for two years. There she invests in high potential ai and machine learning tech companies. >> I don't know where the limit is but every time we think we've reached something and it's going to take longer to get there, the ceiling gets raised again. >> We're very optimistic about the positive impact A.I. can and we believe will have. >> Reporter: jaclyn kucey, global news. >> Joel: coming up, we have one of our adorable adoptables here in studio. You'll meet them next. Stay with us. >> Global news. For many families, the reason that they do estate planning is obviously to have that freedom. It's very important because we're living much longer than we ever have before. You're going to actually be spending more time in your retirement phase of life than you are in your working career. So we suggest to families to plan their estate funding very heavily in the beginning of life in retirement, because this is our life's work and we didn't earn it to leave it behind. We earned it to enjoy it. For more information, join me for our next complimentary seminar. How do you know if you need your commercial duct work cleaned? Look up. Are your vents black? Not all renovations keep the cold out, new windows will. Visit awwreno.com >> Joel: the calgary surge opened their second season at a packed saddledome. >> Clark to go underneath. A score on the play. >> Joel: for one night the surge called the dome home. The season opener against provincial rivals the edmonton stingers was played in front of more than 12,300 fans setting a new cebl regular season attendance record. The surge trailed by 13 at half time and came out in their calgary 88s uniform to start the second half. A nod to calgary basketball history. But the stingers spoiled the party defeating the surge 97-79. The league's commissioner calls the saddledome setting a huge success to tip off the season. >> It doesn't scare me. Kind of speaks to maybe the future of where we would like to go. But at the same time we play in these really kind of intimate cool facilities and just seeing those facilities full is fantastic and I'm just pleased with the way people bought into what we bring both on and off the courts. >> Joel: the surge are back in action next wednesday when they host scarborough WinSport in a rematch of last year's cebl final. >> Bindu: tess loving all of this attention, loves the neck scratches and back scratches. Tiffany beaton here with the cochrane humane society. Tell us all about her. I've already fallen in love. Loveable. >> Very, very, very sweet. I've only been able to meet her a few times. She's been in a wonderful foster home. I got to say I am already in love with her too. She is wonderful in the car, she has wonderful basic obedience, she's great with kids, great with dogs, great with people. If you're basically looking for a great dog, here's tess. >> Bindu: you mentioned great with kids. She's bigger. What do you advise there? >> Make sure your kids understand that the dog is bigger. Give her a little bit of space. If she's really energetic make sure you give her a little bit of extra space just for jumping around. She is only 1. So she is only 1 so she is large. But she'll do so, so, so well in pretty much any home. Anybody looking for a wonderful companion. >> Bindu: would a dog like this do well on a hike -- >> Absolutely. >> Or is this more of a dog park-type dog? >> She's very energetic. Pretty much any form of exercise will be great for her. She'll be a great hiking buddy, camping buddy. She likes to lay on the couch at home but yeah, she is only 1 and she is -- >> Bindu: she seems very well based in the time she's been here. Would you recommend obedience training for a dog like this? >> I kind of always recommend obedience training. She has pretty solid basic obedience. Every time I bring out a treat she's, like, sit, paw, lay down, what do you want me to do, I'll do it all. >> You have a fun event coming up. >> We have our kids pyjama party coming up this friday. So make sure you sign up now. I was chatting with one of the kids at the last one and she loved it. She had so much fun. They get to meet some of the animals and do a couple of activities. Looking for a free evening -- >> Bindu: kids meeting animals, this is going to be a good night. So that's really fun if you're doing that for the kids. That's where you can register, cochrane humane.ca for that pyjama party on friday. And if you're interested in making tess a part of your family, you can head to the would be site or call 403-932-2072. Thank you so much. >> Thank you. >> I'm joelle tomlinson at
