Megan cobb is following this story and joins us with more. >> Bindu: the group was looking for millions of dollars. >> Reporter: yeah, that's right. London drugs has confirmed the ransomware attack but it hasn't released any details around the demands. It also says it is doing a full review of the attack but because of the extent of the damage on its system, that review could take quite awhile. According to a cyber-- threat analysis with cyber security firm [indiscernible] who has seen demands posted on the dark web, north ransomware operation lock bit has claimed responsibility for the attack and is threatening to release employee data stolen from corporate files if the company doesn't pay $25 million by thursday. That threat analyst we spoke with says not paying is a smart move since there's no guarantee the drugstore would get the deencryption key or stolen data would be deleted. London drugs was likely not a unique threat. Ransomware attacks are low effort and deployed against companies attackers believe are able to pay. >> Lockbit has been one of the most prolific of ransomware operations since 2019. They have launched attacks against -- successful attacks against thousands of organizations. They are known to have reaped more than 100 million in ransom demands. >> Reporter: in a statement london drugs says it is unwilling and unable to pay the ransom. The company also says there's no indication customer or patient databases have been compromised but some employee information does appear to have been breached. London drugs says it will reach out to any employee it believes their personal information might have been impacted. It's also offering 24 months of credit monitoring and identity theft protection to all of its employees as a result of the attack. >> Bindu: megan cobb reporting live, thank you. >> Joel: look now at downtown calgary and bringing in tiffany. You're talking about some rain and thunderstorm threat, correct? >> Tiffany: there's a small chance we could see thunderstorms roll through. We're watching that across the province. Could see heavier snow in parts of the mountains, along highway 40. Daytime high 10°, we're at 7 right now. Scattered showers and thunderstorms throughout the day. With a northeasterly breeze between 20 and 40 km/hr. Dropping to 9° this evening, 4° overnight. Scattered showers still in the forecast not only overnight but into tomorrow as well. Tomorrow just a little bit warmer but quite similar to what we're experiencing today with scattered showers and thunderstorms. On friday, same goes, scattered showers and thunderstorms but only a 30% chance and looking at that daytime high of 16° so getting even closer to that

normal fear near. As we make our way into the weekend we are expecting a little more moisture and then next week temperatures warming up beautifully as we finish off the month of may. So all of this moisture going to green things up quite a bit across our city and it's cleaning things up as well. >> Leslie: street cleaners were in the hood. It is nice once they have gone by. If they're in your hood it's 8 to 4. Just because they made one pass doesn't mean you're good. To put that vehicle back on the road. They may do a second pass. Keep that vehicle off the road until 4. Fifth avenue in the downtown core at second street continuing to see two lanes getting through. Fifth avenue drivers trying to get out of the downtown core causing backups. Road looks like just a little wet. Not bad for visibility here in the downtown core, backups as crews continue to work along feat avenue and second street in the southwest. >> Joel: a live look at city hag where labour unrest is bringing. Thousands of city of calgary workers have voted in favour of strike action. It comes after negotiations between the union representing inside workers and the city resulted in three rejected offers. Inside workers include positionings like bylaw staff, water treatment plant workers, administrative staff, among others. They also include 900 calgary police service civilian workers. The union tells us 4200 out of 5600 members voted last week. The vote was 89% in favour of strike action. The union president says his members are concerned about ages wages not keeping up inflation and the lack of flexibility to work from home. The union says it is still meeting with the city through a negotiator with hopes of coming to a resolution. >> Bindu: for the first time since calgary approved its housing strategy, the community development committee is getting its first progress update. City council passed its home is here strategy last september. It includes 98 actions to address the housing crisis in our city. A report will be presented today showing five of those 98 actions have been completed including the recent approval of citywide rezoning.
