Blake lough has more on the 60th anniversary of the calgary marathon. >> Reporter: joining us to talk about it is calgary marathon's kirsten fleming. Good morning. >> Good morning. >> Reporter: this is really exciting. First off a sellout which is huge. >> It's hour first sellout in a decade. We are thrilled except for the person who answers the phone and she says I'm crushing dreams with everyone who says is there just one more spot? There so we were people trying to participate. We are inviting everyone to come out on the course. It's calgary's event and there are a lot in the world. Put your phone down and get out and interface with the community. Witnessed the power of the marathon sunday. >> Reporter: when we say a sellout roughly how many runners? >> 13,600. The youngest is the 11-month-old in the diaper dash and barely crawling and the oldest is jerry miller at 88. From 11 months to 88. >> A phenomenal. What do you attribute that to? How many people wanting to be involved? >> Running is exploding globally right now. As a community we love sharing our sport and welcoming new people into the journey of health and fitness and in calgary there are a few things. Corporate teams, 47 in the corpor challenge. We've done a phenomenal job engaging families and making it accessible and removing the financial barriers for families to come and participate. Anyone 18 and younger is to only $20. >> Reporter: fundraising is a big part of the calgary marathon and that is been a real success in the weekend as well. >> The service charity challenge has just reached $600,000 which is for 193rd coast charities. 109 charities is the biggest we've ever had. By sunday we expect we will hit the 10 million-dollar mark. It is a massive part of the organization and the people who donate are instrumental in making the event a success. >> Reporter: fantastic. What do we need to know for those who are not able to participate because it's sold out but obviously it's a big route and with traffic implications. What do people need to know? >> Leave your car at home. Come out a volunteer. There are road closures and you will see that on the website and I will put the traffic advisory up. We are doing stripped parking in

certain areas. Bridge lind and montgomery and bonus you want to leave the car in the back alley or off the garage or off the root. That's in place until sunday. Memorial drive I would give it a wide berth on sunday. >> Reporter: I've been wanting to ask but the world record attempts. What is the deal? >> Friday there is a gentleman going for the longest ice plunge. He has to stay in a huge tub of ice four hours. You can watch and give him inspiration between 1:00 to 5:00 at the gmc stadium stampede park as part of the service calgary expo and two on race day. One gentleman is going for the fastest marathon using polls in a mobility device which is very cool. A brand-new record. And the other one is a guy coming up with racquet coach wacky things and the fastest sub marathon. I think there are 12 tied together with medical tubing. You have to see it to believe that. [ Laughter ] >> Reporter: no kidding. That will be awesome. So many things happening in the lead up to the calgary marathon and on sunday itself. Race day. It will be phenomenal. A certain attractions as well. Having those reservations made ahead of leaving your home is really key. The other parts of that is also planning to figure out how you will deal with your vehicle. Whether that's leaving it at home and taking regional transit from calgary out to banff national park or once you get here to the park parking your vehicle once and taking transit or commercial shuttles or parks canada shuttles to get to your destination of choice. >> Bindu: parks canada reminding everyone there is a ban of alcohol and cannabis consumption in banff campgrounds and it's important to check the fire danger rating in the park before you head out.
