at 9:30 this morning the city will make an announcement regarding what they say is the permanent closure of the inglewood aquatic centre. This pool was in the news a lot about 5 years ago, when the city wanted to close it and the beltline aquatic and fitness centre as part of budget cuts. There was a save the pool's campaign, and in the end the beltline pool closed in 2021, while the inglewood pool has stayed open. >>> Police say tips are already coming in about a suspected serial killer with ties to alberta who may also have victim is in bc. Last week police in alberta used dna evidence to tie him to the deaths of 4 young women in the calgary area in the 1970s. He was wanted for crimes and his native california, but fled to canada in 1974. Police say he spent a considerable amount of time living on bc's sunshine coast and in the fraser valley. In 1998 he was convicted of sexual assault in new westminster and sentenced to 5 years. Alberta rcmp are convinced he committed other crimes in bc and want to hear from potential victims. >> We realize were asking for some people to go back to the 1970s in their minds, whether it be in calgary or the 1980s and davis bay, half moon bay, gibsons. You move into abbotsford, chilliwack. Asking those people to take themselves back there. >> Blake: 7 new tips or reported to rcmp over the weekend. After serving his time in bc prison, he was deported to the u.s., where he died in custody in 2011. >>> 1 calgary mom has launched human rights complaint as she fights for custody of her son, who has a disability. The 11-year-old was admitted to a program at paul services in 2022, but the family is being told time is up. Sarah offin has this exclusive story. >> We ended up with hospital trip after hospital trip, every single one of them with a new different diagnosis. >> Reporter: her family has been on roller coaster of hospital stays, emergency weights, and please for support. >> They couldn't commit one-on-one to him at school. So I couldn't work. >> Reporter: we've masked the mother's identity for the privacy of her 11-year-old child, who is disabled. He was recommended to the preadolescent treatment program through whole services in 2021, but funding for those beds is only accessible by referral through a social worker with alberta child and family services. >> I was met with, that's child abandonment. >> Reporter: after a visit to the minister's office in 2022, she received an offer for placement allowing him to live at home part time during what would usually be an up to 18 month program. He's now being there for two years, and his family says he's not done yet. >> We have a supportive program that we are seeing progress. That he needs more time with. Now I'm at risk of losing him because he needs more time. >> Reporter: but she was served with the court order to get permanent guardianship of her son. She says social workers told her that will be dropped if she withdrew him from the program. >> They informed me that he could end up in group home. They will look for permanency up to and including adopting him out to another family. >> Reporter: according to the alberta ndp, the case is not isolated. Suggesting treatment should instead be offered through alberta health. >> We've heard from a number of families different variations on the same story. Child with severe mental disabilities, and they simply cannot find the help they need. >> Reporter: the ministry of children and family services said it can't comment for privacy reasons, but in a statement says I child is only removed from their parent are guardian's care as a last resort when their safety and well-being are at risk. The government must receive approval from the courts. >> I shouldn't be in the position I am for doing my job as his mom. >> Blake: the union representing 5600 inside workers at the city of calgary says the city has sweetened its offer. Cupe local 38 so its members vote overwhelmingly in favour of possible strike action after an impasse at the bargaining table. But as dug mason reports, strike could be averted. >> Reporter: people who work at the traffic centre or city hall are referred to as inside workers. Cupe local 38 represents 5600 employed by the city of calgary. 89 percent voted in favour of strike last week, but the union president says the city has just

put more money on the table. >> When we went into the strike vote, the city's offer was 8 percent over three. We have 10.5 percent over three. That's just the monetary concern when we met yesterday, the city move their offer to 9 percent over three. So we are still it weighs apart. >> Reporter: the city released it's own statement while refusing to go into numbers that says, we are disappointed with the results, but we remain hopeful we can achieve a fair and reasonable collective agreement and future bargaining sessions. >> It's always a concern when we are not able to reach an agreement. Obviously discussions are important, that we continue to move forward with collaborative, meaningful discussions. >> It's important they know how valued they are because of the work they do for the community. We have to work through this process. >> Reporter: some taxpayers wonder how many others are getting 9 percent over three years. >> I'm quite sure that wasn't budgeted for in the last hike in our taxes. So I'm not sure where that money will come from. >> Reporter: work to rule or rotating strikes could happen, but right now the union says it will meet at the bargaining table any time, anywhere. >> To address some of the critical issues, specifically work from home. If you look at the impact of inflation and the consumer price index, the space between the employers last officer -- last offer and ours is significant. >> Reporter: the two sides have another meeting scheduled with the mediator june 5th. >> Blake: we will see what happens there. 5:38 right now. But that trend will continue today. Tomorrow and saturday as well. 6 degrees with light northwesterly breeze. Temperatures in and around our city between 5-7 degrees. We had a little bit of rain overnight, cloud cover lingering in some areas. Three in lethbridge, one in medicine hat, six in grande prairie, one in high-level. Good to see these cooler overnight temperatures up north, because there fire danger risk is still high. Cooler temperatures certainly helping with that. This is not helping. 20 degrees in high-level today, causing those areas to dry up that have had moisture this week. We will continue to watch the situation off north. 18 in grande prairie. Central alberta between 8-16 degrees. Southern alberta today between 9-13. Here's a look at the scattered showers across central alberta, mainly that east central part of the province. Scattered showers and possible thunderstorms expected today. Snow possible for higher elevations, but mainly rain and possible thunderstorms is what we are looking at throughout this thursday afternoon. Friday 15 degrees expected in red deer, medicine hat 16. 17 with possible thunderstorms lethbridge, 13 with cloud cover in banff. In calgary 15 degrees, 40 percent chance of thunderstorms lingering. Saturday 16 degrees, same thing, possible thunderstorms. Then sunday, possible rain through the overnight and morning, but then partly cloudy in the afternoon, high of 18 degrees. We were talking about the calgary marathon sunday morning, looks to be pretty good. I'll be watching the wind closely for sunday morning. Into the twenties as we kick off monday and tuesday. >> Leslie: why have you chosen such a violent background?
