>>> The fourth edition of the calgary black film festival kicks off tonight with a screening and event at the globe cinema. Our joelle tomlinson is there to learn more about it. >> Reporter: eight is the first day of the calgary black film festival. Super exciting, the premier happening behind us at the globe theatre but I'm joined by -- we are talking about the festival and the growth. You've been with the festival for three years. It started online. Talk to me about the growth. >> It's been phenomenal. In 2021 it was online, 2022 was our first year in person here and it was a hybrid model and it has been fantastic to see more people coming out from the community, people being excited and looking forward to it. Contacting us before we even roll out, what we are doing for the year. It's been fantastic. >> Reporter: I've been lucky to be a part of the festival on panel so I know it's very encompassing but the filmmakers are the cherry on top. What can people expect? >> That being black in canada series which is showing tomorrow night here at the globe's young filmmakers from across the country. We have our very own calgary artist showing his film and we have an opportunity to see documentary shorts from the perspective of young black canadians. What they are thinking about and experiencing in their canadian communities. It's a very personal opportunity to see what people experience and what their perspective is. It's very beautiful. >> Reporter: vulnerable and powerful. I love it so much. Thank you for joining me ahead of the premier that is happening tonight. While the british monarchy supports a wide range of unique jobs, royal raven master is probably one that is the most unique. Ian lee has more. >> Reporter: the tower of london holds priceless artifacts including england's ground rules but what barney chandler protects is arguing more precious. >> There's only one raven master in the whole world and the health of the birds if the main respond ability. >> Reporter: the towers raven master. >> This little badge here, 14 years I've waited for it. >> Reporter: he makes sure the seven resident ravens get their fill of food, water and even puts them to bed. >> Constantly changing their perches. >> Reporter: the centuries-old royal treatment comes with an equally dire prediction. >> Predominantly there's a legend that states if the ravens ever leave the tower, the tower will crumble and disaster will befall the kingdom. >> Reporter: that's a lot of pressure. >> They didn't mention that much before I took the job on. >> Reporter: what is more important than, protecting the crown jewels or ensuring the survival of the ravens? >> I've never been asked that. Historically the crown jewels have been lost before and the kingdom is still here so the kingdom survived that once, you can survive it again. The kingdom has never survived the ravens being gone. >> Reporter: a minimum of six ravens need to nest in the tower, strutting their stuff for millions of tourists. But these birds of a feather don't necessarily flock together >> They've all got their own personalities. Some are more aggressive than others. Some keep their distance, some are mischievous, summer friendly. >> Reporter: I googled before coming here what a flock of ravens is. >> And unkindness. I think it's unfair, I really do. In mythology, these were nothing but a good omen. >> Reporter: and they will stay a good omen just as long as the raven master does his duty and the birds continue to call the tower home. Ian lee, cbs news, london. >> Linda: still to come, an unexpected detour in the dream of being in a band. >> I injured my voice a few years ago and it kind of phased out. >> Linda: how this canadian dad stayed true to his love of music in a new way and how it has brought his family closer together.

We've got some weather statements, weather advisories off to the east in the alberta saskatchewan border for possible funnel clouds. We zoom in on calgary where funnel clouds aren't very likely but what is likely, in fact what has been happening is we've had rain, thunderstorms and hail, these blue and grey tracks you see here are the hail tracks so depending on where you are you may have had some of the white stuff in your neighbourhood this afternoon. There's a view from global one as we look northwest I think. 11 degrees temperature at the airport, west northwest window 20 glum theirs per hour. Eleven in strathmore, deerfoot city, 13 airdrie, ten cochrane, 14 okotoks, lethbridge also 14, they maxed at 17 this afternoon. Red deer 15, edmonton 14. Satellite radar loop from last three hours, you see the thunderstorms that went through and you can see that there's more on the way. This unsettled air mass will continue to produce on again off again sunny breaks but also periods of rain, possibly thunderstorms and maybe even some more hail. The jetstream well south of the border so we will be below seasonal although we will get closer to it tomorrow. Some clearing in the early morning hours and then we start to cloud over again late morning into the afternoon. The instability especially around four, 4:30 there is a chance of thunderstorms. Repeat on sunday, is will go on through the weekend. How much rain do we expect? Our forecast model says by this time tomorrow we should have about eight millimetres and there's a little bit more on the way for sunday and then monday things really started to turn around for us. Our early-morning low will be about four, 16 degrees for our high temperature in calgary tomorrow. We should be at 18 at this time of year. We will be 15 on sunday but back to 20 degrees and partly cloudy monday. Mostly cloudy, 24 tuesday, 18 wednesday and we cool off again with another system coming through thursday and friday of next week. Rain showers, 12 thursday, rain showers and 13 on friday. >> Linda: it is the rainy season. Thank you paul.
