[ ] >> Dallas: in sports, the puck dropped on game 1 of the stanley cup western finals last night between the edmonton oilers and the dallas stars. >> Behind the net, and comes back. Scores! >> Dallas: it was edmonton's star players putting in the work. Leon draisaitl broke the ice. Getting the first goal of the series. Edmonton was up 2-0 before dallas ended up tying the game. Forcing overtime. Then in the second overtime, connor McDAVID scored. The final ended up 3-2. Of course, connor McDAVID the winning goal, and the earlier overtime, he got a 4-minute penalty. The oilers now the only canadian team in the quest for the cup. That has people from coast to coast to coast including here in calgary jumping on the band wagon and by the way, this is what it looks like inside trolley 5 on nights the oilers play. Jam-packed with fans as they cheer on their team. >> I think that people are just starved for canadian hockey. Canadian hockey overall. So... It's great to see sport. It would have been great to see the canucks get through, as well. But we still have a canadian team live. >> I'm for the oilers. >> Why is that? >> They have a great team and they're the only canadian team left and I want them to win. >> It's fantastic to see edmonton in the playoffs. I'm from kind of the edmonton area. It's obviously sad not to see calgary in there now living here. But, yeah, McDAVID and the boys are making a run for. It as awesome. >> Dallas: game 2 saturday night in dallas. Puck drop at 6 P.M. our time. McDAVID and the boys, les. >> Leslie: McDAVID and the boys. Are they playing 17 hours of hockey like they did last night. >> Oh, my goodness. >> Leslie: great game, though. Great action, and you want a good series, and this one is shaping up to be a good series. 6°. Temperature checked. All of a sudden, the winds variable at 7. And you can see a combination of sun and cloud out there right now. More cloud coming our way a little bit later on today, and then some rain showers this afternoon. Possibly even a thunderstorm. 8 in edmonton right now. 5 in red deer. So you're doing so much better, red deer. You're at 0 at one point. 6 drumheller. 7 in brooks. 9 medicine hat. Lethbridge at 8. Crowsnest pass at 6. And claims another banff at 5. And claresholm at 6. And you have showers through the centre -- the middle of the day, and then possibly some sunshine later on, and a mixture of sun, cloud, and some showers in both saskatoon and regina. A little cooler in winnipeg. Cooler in thunder bay. Warm in toronto, ottawa, and montreal, and halifax. And st. John's chilly. This is a look at edmonton, banff, jasper, cross crowsnest, medicine hat, and lloyd is the cool one at 12°, and let's look at the collision on the north part of the city, stoney, and yeah, the two vehicles there, and not going to be there much longer, and just about finished clearing it and as you can see, traffic is getting through there, and bare dry roads, and these two lanes heading to reconciliation bridge, and the through traffic here and looking to exit the 4th avenue flyover, exit lane, and you need to go way back to deerfoot trail, and otherwise you'll be too late, and you'll find yourself right here, and have to to do whoop-de-doo. >> Brandi: and we have the whoop-de-doo here, and this is kensington road, and the southbound right lane blocked off approaching the intersection. It is definitely very busy. Backups to 8th avenue right now, and looking at 5 extra minutes to get through here. Get your diy on during the get-ready for summer sale at home hardware with deals on paint and power tools only to june 5th. Up in global 1, I'm brandi warren. >> Dallas: thank you, brandi. Well, after more than 60 years, the city has decided to close the inglewood aquatic centre at the end of this year. As craig momney reports, there is a worry about what the loss will mean for existing pressures on city pools. >> Come december, inglewood swimmer, betty will have to get her laps in somewhere else. >> Not impressed. This area needs to have some recreational facilities. >> Reporter: she lives across

the street from the inglewood aquatic centre and has swam here since she was 11 years old. Now her beloved pool will be closed for good. >> It's been here for 60-plus years, and if they can update other places, they can update this place, too. I know it's going to cost a lot of money. >> Reporter: that price tag at least $600,000, and 3 months of work. Built in the 1960's, the city says the aging facility exceeded its lifespan by over a couple of decades and faces major repairs to its electrical systems. >> While we explored various possibilities to sustain the facility's operations, advancing the closure of the inglewood aquatic centre prevents the need for the costly and time consuming repair. Moreover, there's a chance that further repairs would be required because of the facility's age. >> Reporter: some calgarians are worried yet another pool has disappeared from the inner city. Among them, the eau claire y. >> It will be high demand and pressure. >> Reporter: the population of calgary what I heard on the news grown by over 100,000 last year, yet we hear no new public or private rec facilities developed in the city. >> We are aware of providing aquatics in the inner city, and the first choice was investment at mnp. >> Reporter: the celebration commemorating the inglewood pool later this year. As for betty... >> I swam in this pool the first day it opened and I will swim in this pool the last day it closes. >> Reporter: and that last day is december 22nd. Craig momney, global news. >> Dallas: this is a live look -- beautiful live look at spruce meadows for you this morning, and nice and green out there, and we can tell you that spruce meadows is getting a new upgrade ahead of the summer. The facility is adding a new outdoor stage for concerts with the debut show june 15 and 16th. Featuring country singers george canyon, jesse moskaluk, and steven lee olsen. The facility is also planning to open an on site upscale restaurant and coffee shop. That one is not going to be open until next august. But nice to see. More editions coming to spruce meadows. Lots of great events happening there. Much more still ahead on your friday morning. May 24th. Global news "morning" is back right after this.
