Topping the news right now, a deportation hearing is happening in calgary this morning for the truck driver who caused the deadly humbolt broncos bus crash in saskatchewan in april of 2018. It is widely expected that jaskirat singh sidhu will be ordered out of the country. His lawyer michael green says the rules are clear with little flexibility. Green says the only hope to keep sid hugh from india and here in canada is on humanitarian grounds. Sidhu was sentenced to eight years in prison and granted full parole last year. 16 people killed and 13 injured in the bus crash. Amazon is officially opening its 11th facility in alberta this morning. And it is happening right here in our city. The 2.8 million square foot warehouse features innovative new logistics technology making amazon's first ever robotic fulfillment centre in the city and happens when the unemployment rate is 7.7% due in part to the population boom while at the same time employment opportunities is high. The business council of alberta says the province is an attractive place to invest right now. >> We have some of the nation's largest airlines, and trucking companies, and logistics facilities, and world class airports, and some of that is contributing to us being an attractive place for amazon to put big new facilities and state-of-the-art facilities. >> Dallas: crockett says the influx of new people to alberta is good for the economy but challenging for the current housing crisis we are in. >>> The city of calgary says it's back on track as it deals with a high number of burned out streetlights. A city audit showed a backlog up to 5200 streetlights in need of repair. It's a job that should take about 14 days to complete. But it was actually averaging 77 days. The city says changing contractors, a severe winter, and supply chain issues were creating major delays. >> Now we're down to 10-day response time. Less than 500 outages where there was over 5,000 outages at one point. We're thankful for the process that we, but also the team that we have that responds to streetlights in the city. >> Dallas: did we have a severe winter? A few moments, I suppose. The see says it has over 10,000 streetlights, and its team fields many calls. Alberta's recent weather reduced fire risk in the province, but officials say it could change very quickly. Right now, there are 31 wildfires burning in our province. 20 of them still burning from last season. All fires are under control or being held including the fort McMURRAY fire where residents have now been allowed to go back home. Authorities say while conditions are favourable, it is important for albertans to practice fire safety. 77% of fires this season are human caused. >> Despite our efforts to encourage albertans and visitors to take care, and over the may long weekend, 25 campfires detected in the calgary area. These were distinguished by patrol staff. But if they were not detected, it could have led to catastrophic wildfiress over the long weekend. >> Dallas: 25,000 hectares burning in our province last year, and compared to 9,000 hectares this year, that is a positive sign. But it's early on in the season, leslie. >> Leslie: yes, and it's early on, and lots of rain around our area, and they need much more rain up to the north and even around us, and we need to be continuous, right. Because it will get out of control quickly. And nigel and nigella are sleeping, and this is a reminder of some of the cities in canada. So I like to put history and geographic combined with the weather. You know, it's sort of a thing I like to do. Right now in edmonton, 5°, and red deer 0. You were sitting at 1. Not unusual to get allegation -- get a little bit of a dip, and banff 2, and brooks, 6 and crowsnest pass at 3, and 5 for lethbridge right now, and this is a look at the temperatures that are going to be, this afternoon, and 17 for jasper.

that is going to be a nice afternoon. Banff, probably clouds. Claresholm 16, and 17 in lethbridge, and... Nice weekend to go out and do some camping in the drumheller area. And... This is what it looks like for the next few days, and a bit of a soggy weekend, and things are improving, and takes us to the end of may, and june is just around the corner. May flowers, june showers. May showers june flowers. You know, planting. Probably safe next week. Traffic-wise, taking a look at the big picture. Lots of green there and a couple of pops of colours on 16th avenue, and here is a look at stoney and 16th in the southeast part of the city, and travelling southbound, and northbound, and stoney and chaparral moving well over the bridge. It will slow down because it doesn't take much to slow down in this area when you have a couple of lanes going each direction as the big road. And if you are impacted by the calgary marathon, and starts and finishes at stampede park. Limited parking, and encouraging you to run and cycle, and c-train. Imagine, come do a marathon, and do you mind running 10k before you run your marathon and there will be flag people and calgary police along the route. 6 A.M. to 3 P.M. is when you're going to see those road restrictions. That is your ok traffic. >> Dallas: thank you, leslie. One eye-opening report shows the state of calgary's transit system when it comes to future funding to keep it running. The national independent report by leading mobility found without operating money from the provincial or federal governments transit service in calgary will be threatened. It lays out options to address the funding shortfalls. One of them being a potential vehicle levy. >> One of the things that has been done in places -- many places across the world, also here in canada, montreal, is a vehicle levy, and it looks at charging the vehicle, a certain portion of the vehicle fees goes to transit operations, and parking levies, and tnc fees and a bunch of other fees, and we wanted to understand what is the impact of different revenue tools and the allowances you might need from different levels of government to pay for transit services so we don't have the annual conversation of shortfalls and what may still run a service and what may be cut in the future. >> Dallas: right now, the city is pitching in $32 million for low income transit passes on top of the province's 6 million. [ ] it is time now for money matters. Joining us from the baun and pate investment group on this friday, darren cooper. Good morning to you. What are you seeing on the futures? >> Morning, dallas. We're having a low volume bounceback as it is the long weekend in the u.s., and up 1200 s and p, and nasdaq up 48. Canadian dollar up 7/100 at 72.91, and oil is off to 76.58. And natural gas is down 2 cents, and gold is up $3 an ounce. 2363. >> Dallas: well, I'm trying to catch up on what you're talking about today, but it sounds like dramatic succession stuff happening. >> Yes, we've had a battle going on in the public eye here for the last few months, so facing a losing battle and a shareholder vote. All of the members of the board of directors at gildan active wear resigning along ceo vince tyra and he was named in december as ceo and kicked off a dramatic and public battle, and spearheaded by investment company to reinstate bandy. The shareholder support for the slate of board of directors they proposed made it clear that the battle is over, and shmandy is expected to resume as ceo imminently, and the border directors including and former executives from nike, cn rail, he will he couche-tard and mike neiland chairs the board, and ends the sale process for the company that shmandy and his
