At this conference is aimed at connecting first nations, métis, inuit, and university communities to create meaningful change in support of indigenous education, and implementing the truth and reconciliation commission called to action. And joining us in studio to talk about this year's forum is dominic beaudry. Associate vice president of academic, and indigenous programs with laurentian university. Dominic, think you for being here. >> Thank is so much for having me. >> Marina: let's start off by telling our viewers about this year's conference, and who all will be taking part because you are expecting guests from across the province, and across the country in fact. >> Yes, we are. We are actually calling this event laurentian university and university of canada. And we are quite excited, this is an event that has been held across canada. So it's our opportunity to share all the good work that is being done at laurentian university, as well as sharing the community of sudbury during the forum. >> Marina: theme this year is indigenous education, and mapping out institutional spaces. Can you explain that focus? >> The focus for that is to ensure that truth and reconciliation is call to action are implemented,. So there is a section called to action where universities and education systems across canada are expected to ensure the trc calls to action are implemented. And we are in an era of equity that -- diversity and inclusion in business. So we want to ensure that the trc call to action are integrated throughout laurentian university, and across universities across ontario and across canada. So all of the interesting and positive contributions we need

to share that. Doctor lafontaine he was president of the canadian medical association overseeing 85,000 doctors across canada. So we want to share information like that. As well as aaron who is and indigenous ignition all been and who works for nasa. And he or she co- constructed the current rover on mars. And he also designed the drill bit for the mechanism. So indigenous people continue to be impactful in education, we want to ensure as part of trc, to ensure that the positive narrative -- and his new's narratives are being included in the delivery of education, and it's also time for healing when you share truth is also a time for healing to ensure that the trc calls to action are integrated. >> Marina: this is the eighth annual forum. And participants this year of parcel b. In northern ontario here in sudbury they're coming from near and far. What will you be showcasing as they are here locally? >> The first day will have a social to share all the ceremonial activities of first nations people. On there is also an opportunity to share with community trips to [ Unintelligible ] the first nation, as well as [ Unintelligible ] so they get the participants the opportunity to not only see laurentian university, but also to share our beautiful city in the sudbury -- city of sudbury. >> That is wonderful, we certainly appreciate your time today dominic. While on the job. Ctv's siobhan morris has the details. >> Reporter: not quite summer, but already the sun is baking ontario. Making for some sometimes sizzling working conditions on the street back and off. >> We need better protections for workers from heat stress, as ontario faces more climate change driven extreme heat events. >> Reporter: new democrats have the ontario federation of labour, and workers want to the government to do more to make sure workers are kept cool. >> The time for action is now,. >> Reporter: whether they earn their paychecks in schools. >> Heat -- that he dreams them of their energy making tasks such as cleaning, lifting, and moving equipment even more exhausting,. >> Reporter: or work in the shop. >> I am wearing heavy leathers mask gloves. And sometimes I can only stand there for maybe 10 minutes, and I have to stop and peel that aloft. >> Reporter: all of that gear can speed up the effects of heat stress on the body. Critic said that cranking up the aca if you have it is not an adequate plan. >> You would be amazed how may times of heard from schools that not only is it sweltering we hot , with the water fountains are also turned off, because they didn't pass the water testing,. >> Reporter: the ndp we'll look at what other jurisdictions have done to inform a buildout percent this fall. >> Making sure there is cold water available there more breaks there's shade, and frankly you got an indoor space and air-conditioning to make sure you have an engineering solution that reduces, or limits risk. >> Reporter: there is an acknowledgement these solutions we'll cost more. >> There also is a cost when workers cannot work. With workers anything to go home, we've seen lives lost. >> Reporter: a spokesperson for the minister of labour says employers have a duty to keep work environment safe you're concluding in high heat. She says the ministry does thousands of proactive sessions each year, but that workers should report some thing if they think rules are being broken, at queen's park, siobhan morris, ctv news. >> Marina: an update now, blind river town council is moving ahead with next steps, is it looks to legislate tiny homes in it's community. That's not counsellors received a report outlining what I would have to be done at the town level council gives staff the green light to go ahead, and determine what changes to the official plan and zoning bylaw would have to be made. >> It's an interesting, and exciting adventure that we are exploring.
