Christian Eriksen’s agent puts an end to Manchester United exit rumours
Christian Eriksen’s immediate future is at Manchester United despite interest from Ajax.
The summer transfer window is still open in the Netherlands, leading to suggestions of Ajax pursuing a move for their former midfielder.
Earlier on Monday, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming the Eredivisie outfit remain interested in Eriksen before Monday’s transfer deadline despite their struggles to meet United’s demands.
The 32-year-old is no longer an integral part of Erik ten Hag’s squad. For United’s opening two Premier League games, Eriksen remained an unused substitute.
Meanwhile, against Liverpool, Ten Hag only handed the veteran midfielder four minutes of normal playing time. He hooked off Casemiro, who delivered a disastrous performance, at half-time and introduced 20-year-old Toby Collyer instead of Eriksen.
Last season, Eriksen fell behind Mainoo in the pecking order, and now it appears Collyer has also overtaken him. Regardless of the situation, the Denmark international is set to continue at Old Trafford.
Speaking to Voetbal International, Eriksen’s agent Martin Schoots revealed the player is not moving to Ajax, insisting: “We can stop these speculations.”
Ajax were keen to sign the Dane to strengthen Francesco Farioli’s midfield. Meanwhile, United were reported to be open to selling him for around €5 million.
Further, VI adds that Ajax and Eriksen’s camp even held talks to explore the possibility of a fairytale return. However, Ajax’s difficult financial situation proved too big an obstacle.
The Amsterdam-based outfit needed to sell several players before bringing in new stars this summer, and so far they have failed to achieve their target.
Eriksen, having entered the final year of his contract, will now remain at United for the time being. This also means the Premier League giants will most likely lose him for nothing.
Now that he is staying put, Ten Hag might hand Eriksen regular opportunities as the season progresses considering Casemiro’s abysmal form and Collyer’s inexperience.
