Chris Kreider Sees Increased Role Following Surprising Benching
It seems as if the New York Rangers’ decision to scratch Chris Kreider was just a one-time thing.
In his first game back after getting benched, Kreider recorded 18:39 minutes, but failed to get on the stat sheet.
Over the prior two games, Kreider played just 16:11 minutes and 15:48 minutes respectively, so maybe Peter Laviolette is not looking to completely diminish the veteran forward’s role after all.
When he was asked about getting scratched, Kreider did not feel the need to divulge much into his frustration about the situation, but admitted he could ultimately be better from all of this.
“I don’t see a ton of use in talking about the experience,” Kreider said. “Take the lessons, improve, be better and be the best version of myself so I can help the team.”
Rangers general manager Chris Drury specifically mentioned Kreider’s name in a league-wide memo stating his desire to shake up the team’s core and make trades as it’s been a season filled with drama and outside noise for the long-time Ranger.
The 33-year-old forward has recorded 11 goals, one assist and 12 points in 31 games while averaging 17:28 minutes this season.
