What Chiefs’ Isiah Pacheco said about possibly giving No. 10 to DeAndre Hopkins

Tennessee Titans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins (10) celebrates his touchdown against the Jacksonville Jaguars during the third quarter at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tenn., Sunday, Jan. 7, 2024.

The Chiefs on Thursday officially announced they’ve acquired wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins in a trade with the Tennessee Titans.

News of the deal broke Wednesday morning, and Chiefs fans were thrilled to have the three-time All-Pro receiver join the team.

But some had a question.

During his 12 seasons in the NFL, Hopkins has only worn No. 10. That was his jersey number with the Houston Texans, Arizona Cardinals and Tennessee Titans.

Hopkins signed with the Titans in the summer of 2023, but before that happened, there was speculation he was pondering a free-agent deal with the Chiefs.

X user Shane Williams asked Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco at that time if he’d be willing to part with his No. 10 if it meant adding Hopkins to the roster. Pacheco seemed willing to give up No. 10.

“Knowing DeAndre Hopkins, he may not ask for the number,” Pacheco said. “Rookie, just got a Super Bowl ring, you know what I’m saying? Willing to get another one with him. So for me, I just know whatever it takes to get him here to be on the team, let’s do it. Let’s make it happen.”

Pacheco is on injured reserve as he works to return following surgery for a broken fibula (ankle). But that doesn’t mean Hopkins would simply get No. 10 because Pacheco is out of action.

Pacheco would have to give it to his new teammate. Or possibly sell it.

Chiefs fans speculated about what number Hopkins could choose and many would love to see him be the first to wear No. 0. Here is a bit of what was being said on that topic on X.
