Chiefs expected to have Juan Thornhill, guard Joe Thuney available at Bengals Sunday

The Chiefs are on track to have a pair of starters back in action for Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals at Paycor Stadium.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid said safety Juan Thornhill (calf) and left guard Joe Thuney (ankle) are expected to play in Week 13.

“I think so,” Reid said. “They practiced, so sure.”

Neither Thornhill nor Thuney played in Week 12, but both put in full practices the past three days. Rookie safety Bryan Cook filled in for Thornhill and veteran guard/center Nick Allegretti started in place of Thuney last week against the Los Angeles Rams.

The Chiefs should also have backup running back Jerick McKinnon (hamstring) available. McKinnon returned to a full practice Friday after missing work on Wednesday and Thursday.

“I think he’ll be up,” Reid said.

The Chiefs didn’t assign a game designation for Thornhill, Thuney or McKinnon, meaning they are available for a normal workload against the Bengals.

The Chiefs won’t have wide receiver Kadarius Toney available Sunday, however.

Toney, who has been nursing a hamstring injury suffered in Week 11, missed all three days of practice this week and is ruled out against the Bengals. His continued absence will affect the Chiefs on special teams, where they are expected to rely on receiver Justin Watson or rookie cornerback Trent McDuffie to handle punt-return duties.

McDuffie, who returned nine punts in college, said he is prepared if Chiefs special teams coordinator Dave Toub calls his number.

“I’m ready if he needs me,” McDuffie said.

The Chiefs designated safety Deon Bush (elbow) as questionable for Sunday’s game. Bush, a core contributor on special teams, suffered the injury in Week 12 and was limited in practice the past three days.
