Chicago Bears players asked for change at offensive coordinator

The Chicago Bears fired offensive coordinator Shane Waldron on Tuesday following another abysmal offensive showing in a 19-3 loss to the New England Patriots. Waldron lasted just nine games before head coach Matt Eberflus relieved him of his duties. And it sounds like there was some internal discussion about moving on.

According to ESPN Chicago's Marc Silverman, Bears players went to Eberflus and general manager Ryan Poles to ask them to make a change at offensive coordinator. While NFL Network's Tom Pelissero noted there was a scenario where Chicago discussed retaining Waldron, they ultimately decided to move on.

This wouldn't be the first time players had an issue with Waldron, as the infamous leaders meeting where players asked Waldron to coach them harder ahead of a Week 4 game against the Carolina Panthers, where the unit started to turn things around.

Silverman also mentioned that there were some veteran players requesting that backup quarterback Tyson Bagent start in place of rookie quarterback Caleb Williams. It's unclear whether the reasoning is simply because of players not believing in him or wanting to protect him from the beating he's been taking.

Eberflus was asked if benching Williams was a potential change coming to the team, and he immediately shut it down and said the team is sticking with their rookie quarterback.
