As abrasive as the designand construction process can be at times, the endresult is always incredible. Bryan: I think it's extremelyimportant to celebrate the small wins, andto take the time to appreciate all the hard work that everyone involvedputs into this project. And it's vital to our success. Can I make you ladies a champagne spritzer? Sarah: We've had numerouspeople, friends, family, some telling us we'reabsolutely crazy to do this but other people sayingthis is something they've alwayswished they could do. Bryan: Should we toast? This is the birth of the bar. I think this is gonna be an important location in the hotel. Sarah: When Bryan and I talk to people, we're very honest that the highs are some of the bestdays of our lives, but we've also seen someof the hardest times our family has ever faced, and we really don't know what the future holds. Bryan: Next timeon Island of Bryan. Adam: There's so manythings happening right now. We've got a milliontasks that we need to try and get wrapped up. Bryan: There's waytoo much to do. There's a frightening amount to do. We cannot push theopening date again. Sarah: No we can't. There's a storm coming. It's been a long year. Well just mentally, physically, emotionally, certainly financially. Sarah: My only question is this wasn't what we had planned. Bryan: You don't find it weird, no? Well I'd love to do it twice. That's what I was thinking earlier. We've got two oceancontainers on site right now, and they are rammedfull with about a quarter million dollarsworth of kitchen equipment. If you have anothersolution, like, talk to me. I don't feel the waywe're operating right now is sustainable. We've never prioritized our marriage. Bryan: We have to make sure we keep our eyes on the end goal and there are some sacrifices you have to make. Thanks for joining us on global news @ noon. I'm candace daniel. Well, maybe we can call it lucky number 14, but the wnba is finally coming to canada with the expansion team officially tipping off at the start of the 2026 season. Our jaden lee-lincoln was lucky enough to be there and joins us now with more. Hi, jaden. I mean it, you are so lucky to be there. I can only imagine what the vibes were like because it's such exciting news. Everyone from the prime minister to the wnba comish, what was it like? >> Reporter: hi there, candace, yeah, absolutely electric in the room today, super exciting today, as we announced canada's first wnba team. Prime minister justin trudeau, the premier, mayor olivia chow here as well as some friendly faces that we might know if you're a raptors fan, raptors president masai ujiri, with he saw current player scottie barnes and kyle lowry all here today for this very exciting announcement and just so many happy, smiling faces. The prime minister and lowry both speaking today on such an exciting event. >> Super excited. I'm glad I had the opportunity to be here and it's only going to grow and get better. >> Rt. Hon. Justin Trudeau: seeing the energy that's been built up around women's professional sports, the hunger for it, the excitement for it, and just the glory of it is huge, proud, proud to be part of a country that uplifts women in sport. >> Candace: just a big huge day for canadian sports history, but what do we know about the team so far, jaden? >> Reporter: yeah, just to add on that, mayor olivia chow actually has named today may 23rd, wnba day here in toronto. So, again, very exciting. Again, this is canada's first wnba franchise. This was awarded to the kilmer sports ventures through its fearless leader larry tanenbaum. He's been gunning for a canadian team for a toronto women's basketball team for quite some time and he's calling this canada's team, the first wnba franchise. It's set to start up may 2026, so two years from now, it will be the 14th team in the wnba, which is an expanding franchise, they've been seeing some fantastic numbers over the last year or so. We heard from the wnba commissioner and larry tanenbaum himself. >> Our team will complete the pathway for women in this country. They will see heroes that look like them in person and on the air all summer long. They'll gain inspiration from asia wilson, diana stewart and kia nurse. They can see that the sport they play as girls and women is just as important and worth investing in, because the more we all realize the value and potential in women's sports, the closer we get to a more equitable future in the world of sports. >> Reporter: everyone wants to know the name and team colours. We don't have that yet. We did get the names of the team's ceo and the president. The president is teresa resdish. She said she wants team name and colour to represent canada and women in sports and she wants it to have a little bit of swag. She got that from masai ujiri himself saying things like this have to have swag, something that people want to buy in to. As well, the team will be playing at coca-cola coliseum, so there will be games there and also a new facility for the women to practice in, but they'll be having games across canada, again, because this is canada's team, inspiring as many young girls as possible to get into the sport of possible. So they'll be having games in montreal as well as vancouver and as well, candace. >> Candace: thanks, jaden.

>>> In quebec, hydro crews have been working around the clock after severe thunderstorms pushed through the province overnight. Brayden jagger haines reports. >> Reporter: splintering fully grown trees right down the middle and toppling power lines, turbulent thunderstorms swept through southern quebec overnight leaving at its peak over 19,000 hydro-quebec customers in the dark. >> Watching the hockey game, the electricity stop, and the winds come very crazy. >> Reporter: michel gaudreau says he and his family are lucky to be alive. This maple tree uprooted by blistering winds narrowly missed his chateauguay home, damaging his pool and fence. He is one of many residents of the south shore city assessing the carnage left behind by the severe thunderstorm registering winds of up to 90km/h. >> I go in the rooms to see outside, the trees go like that and the rains go like that. It's terrible. >> Reporter: electrifying light shows brought heavy rains and strong winds. The monteregie region and the laurentians were the hardest hit bearing the brunt of the storm with up to 9,000 people experiencing outages. Hundreds of hydro-quebec workers have been mobilized to quickly restore power to the affected areas. City workers are also busy clearing scattered debris. Residents are doing the same while praising their good fortune as no injuries were reported. >> It's nice to be able to talk about it nicely and saying everything was okay. It was frightening enough and could be far worse. >> Reporter: as the massive cleanup continues, hydro-quebec officials say crews should have power restored to the majority of the grid by friday. Brayden jagger haines, global news, chateauguay. >> Anthony: and that storm yesterday, especially on the south shore of montreal almost came out of nowhere. It was well ahead of a line of storms that was back in ontario. So, yeah, some damage reports there. Much calm are conditions today, 22° in montreal. Also the north end of the gta saw some incredible lightning activity, even a tornado warning late yesterday evening. Newmarket, all sorts of active weather, calmer. That is the word of the day. Also, cooler. It is still very summer-like, but the humidity is lower and we're not going to see highs of 30° like we had yesterday in montreal, the first 30 going back to last september. It won't be the last one, I can guarantee you that. Summer is yet to really even begin. There are some fair weather cumulus clouds starting to pop up now and that's all we're really expecting. There are some exceptions up towards quebec city, still the risk of thunderstorms, maybe some showers developing in the eastern townships as well. Winds are brisk up to the north. Even around the gta some 30 to 50km/h gusts through the remainder of this afternoon, but it won't stop the temperature from climbing, reaching the mid 20s. Montreal 26°, 27° in windsor, another stellar day tomorrow. Does it last into the weekend? I'll let you know coming up. >> Candace: peel regional police are investigating a deadly double shooting near an elementary school. >> When officers arrived on scene, they did locate a shooting scene and established two individuals had been shot. A male in his 40s has since been pronounced deceased and a male under the age of 20 is currently in critical condition at hospital. >> Candace: it happened near winston churchill boulevard and battleford road in mississauga shortly after 11 wednesday night. Police say preliminary findings suggest a group gathered in the parking lot of settlers green public school and an altercation broke out. Officials say the victims were known to each other. At this time, officers say they're unsure if there's a single suspect or multiple. The k to 6 school opened for the day with a heavy police presence in the parking lot.
