It was unbelievable, the sound of destruction going on around us. >> Reporter: everyone survived, as did others who packed into a bathroom at a truck stop at valleyview that's another torn apart. The mangled metal showing the storm's power. >> I kid you not. 30 seconds in, someone guess, get to the bathroom now. >> Reporter: at least 7 people, cloudying two children, were killed and dozens hurt in cook county texas. >> They need your prayers, support, and god willing, we will help them rebuild their lives. >> Reporter: and there were storm-related deaths in oklahoma, where this funnel cloud was spotted near the town of mutual, roofs were torn off homes and vehicles flipped in clairmore. >> We had a violent weather event. >> Reporter: more deaths were reported in arkansas. >> The house started to shape viently. Nope, let's go to the laundry room. >> Reporter: throughout the states, hundreds of thousands lost power. As the system moves east, around 50,000 people from georgia to new jersey are under the threat of more severe weather. Astrid martinez, cbs news. >> Reporter: the government of papua new guinea said a landslide buried 2,000 people alive and asked for international help. The government figure is three times more than the united nations estimate of 670. The remains of 6 people have been recovered so far, from the buried village in anga province. A man on vancouver island is asking for help, as he tries to figure out who attacked his dog with a machete. It happened late last week, deep in the bush northwest of nanaimo. >> Call him a warrior. >> Reporter: adam couldn't believe his eyes, when he saw blood and two people standing

over his dog magic. >> She was smiling and laughing the entire time. Why do you even have an unsheathed match machete on a public weaking trial. >> For 15 years, he has been walking his pups along the same trail in parksville. Last thursday, it was anything by normal. >> This is supposed to be a safe place for people to take the dogs to walk. It's not fair that my dog is unsafe. >> Reporter: he rushed magic to the vet. The injuries cut straight through muscle. >> It was a very deep laceration to the face. Basically the side of the skull and down the face. And it was somewhat peeling off the skull and I've seen pretty horrible wounds, but nothing inflicted quite like this. >> Reporter: perret on disability and living out of a camper couldn't afford the bill. >> They put an estimate at $1,900. >> The vet stepped in. >> I spoke to the owner of the veterinary hospital and asked if this would be a suitable candidate for our heart fund. And heart stands for help every animal receive treatment. >> Reporter: the answer was yes. And with some anaesthetic, stitches, and lots of tlc, painkillers, and antebiticks, magic is now back with his owner. Why anybody would attack magic is a mystery. >> He's not the best with other dogs, but he's a people lover. >> Reporter: he hopes someone in the area will recognize the alleged attackers. >> He was wearing greenick up and downs, in his 50s, he had a shaved head >> He's greatful for the support from the hospital. >> He saved my dog's life. >> Reporter: and now four years sober, thankful for man's best friend. >> These dogs saved my life. I had no choice but to save his life. >> Antony: the remains of an unknown newfoundland soldier who died in france during the first world war arrived home in st. John's. [ ] >> Antony: france transferred the remains to canada over the weekend during a repatriation ceremony at the beaumont hamal newfoundland memorial. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the national war memorial in downtown st. John's, where the unknown's soldiers remains will be placed in a black granite tomb on newfoundland's memorial day on july 1st. Oscar winning composure richard m sherman, who wrote songs for classic disney films, such as mary poppins is being rerped, after passing away over the weekend. Sherman ask his brother robert won two oscars in 1965 for their work on mary poppins. The legendry musical force was behind 200 songs in 27 disney films, and has won countless awards for his work. Sherman has been called one of the most prolific lyricists in the history of family entertainment. A funeral been held may 31st in california. Sherman was 95 years old.
