The international community is turning up the heat on israel as ireland, norway and spain have now joined more than 140 other countries in officially recognizing a palestinian state. Now, this move comes as disturbing. Newly released footage taken on october 7th shows hamas militants kidnaping female israeli soldiers. Ray jackson has the latest from washington. But first, a warning some of the details are disturbing. >> Disturbing newly released video from october 7th shows seven female soldiers captured by hamas terrorists. Some of their faces bloodied and their hands bound. Loved ones reacted to the chilling video with an urgent plea for the hostages to come home. >> I am begging for people to do something, you know, just just get them out of there. >> The hostage family's form made the video public to push for the hostages release, a demand echoed by protesters gathered in israel who say the government must do more. >> We've got to do everything. Everything to bring them home. All the hostages. And because they're suffering there, if they're still alive in what they call an effort to bring peace to the region, ireland, norway and spain agreed to formally recognize an independent palestinian state. >> We do so because we believe in freedom and justice as the fundamental principles of international law. >> The landmark move drew praise from palestinians, while israel and the U.S. voiced opposition. >> What I can tell you is we believe the only way that you are going to achieve a two state solution that delivers for both israelis and palestinians is through direct negotiations between the parties. >> Israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu warned rewarding terrorism will not bring peace. In washington, brie jackson, nbc news. >> British prime minister rishi sunak has called a national election, which will happen on july 4th. >> Now is the moment for britain to choose its future. This election will take place at a time when the world is more dangerous than it has been since the end of the cold war. >> Sunak says king charles, the third granted his request on wednesday to dissolve parliament , which his office says will be suspended on friday. This announcement comes months ahead of when it was expected, with the governing conservative party support dwindling after 14 years in power. In texas, the families of victims of the 2022 uvalde school shooting have reached a settlement with the city for more than $2.7 million. In addition to the payout, uvalde will overhaul the city's police force and create a permanent memorial for the victims. Lawyers for the family say they

are also suing 92 state police officers for their response to the tragedy. 19 grade four students and two teachers were killed. The botched police response has been condemned by several U.S. government reports. No one, however, has faced criminal charges for how the shooting was handled. Earlier this month, london drugstores reopen after a cyberattack forced their closure for more than a week. Well, we now know the group claiming to be behind the attack is demanding a multi-million dollar ransom. As erin mccarthy reports, this news comes as another high profile cyber attack has been made public, this time on a health authority. >> The methods are not subtle. Pay up or the data is dumped on the dark web. London drugs, the latest corporation to be targeted by the group known as lockbit. The hackers demanding $25 million from the richmond based company to retrieve its employee data by international standards. London drugs, a small company. Experts say it doesn't matter. >> They go for organizations are the most likely to pay up. So that is to say, organizations that are going to be under significant pressure to get their systems back up and running. >> All 79 london drug stores were shut down at the end of april for more than a week to deal with a cyber attack. The company has finally confirmed what happened and despite claims from lockbit, it offered $8 million in ransom. London drugs says it is unable and unwilling to pay, saying we acknowledge these criminals may leak london drugs. Corporate files. This is deeply distressing. Cyber attacks are on the rise around the world. B.C. has been hit several times in just the last few weeks. First it was london drugs and then the provincial government reporting intrusions. Now a new attack. The first nations health authority has been targeted. >> I can tell you that it is different from what the province faced, and it is also different from what the london drugs incident. >> According to the health authority, the attack was discovered may 13th and in a statement says while the investigation is still at an early stage, fna has uncovered evidence that certain employee information and limited personal information of others has been impacted. The cybersecurity industry says companies and organizations that are targeted need to come forward with more information about the nature of their attacks. Without direct access to the information, other companies remain vulnerable. >> This chief operating officer has been pretty tight lipped on exactly how this took place, what was happening, and we don't want other companies to, get into that same issue and we need to know. >> London drugs is paying up to two years worth of credit monitoring for its employees, potentially compromised. >> Experts say everyone should pay close attention to their online profiles after these kinds of attacks. Erin macarthur, "global news" >> The calgary humane society has found a home for one special surrendered pet this is slippy the turtle. He arrived at the humane society last september. Turns out he's a map turtle, which is a controlled species in alberta and can't be kept as a pet. So after reaching out to numerous organizations, the humane society finally found a home for slippy at the victoria butterfly gardens. Next time on "the morning show" here on "global" >> Well, we're now moving into june pretty soon, and many of you have already headed out to your gardens. You've done some planting, but have you heard of pollinator gardens? Well, certainly around my household. It's something we've been focusing on. And well, pollinator gardens basically attract pollinating insects which kind of have an impact on your garden, your property, but also a worldwide impact too, on wildlife and vegetation too. Well, to talk more about this, we're going to bring it a little more focus, though to your garden and how to do it is mark cullen, our gardening expert. Thanks very much for joining us, mark, I appreciate it. Delighted all right. Well, for those who maybe aren't aware of what a pollinator garden is, what are what is a pollinator garden? >> What's a pollinator plant and why is it important, you know, for a lot of viewers that don't really know what we're talking about, let me be begin by saying that a third of the food we eat is pollinated by the by the natural world, mostly insects, but birds, hummingbirds, night flying bats. Actually, there are a lot of pollinators out there, but primary ali, they're native bees, of which there's more than 400 in canada, over 200 in quebec and ontario and the maritimes. So these are native bees, not honey bees. And of course, there are butterflies. Now, I have a question for you. You don't know what that is. I'm not going to ask you what it is, but it's milkweed. And I only know because I grew up myself and this is the simplest thing in the world to grow. Why would you grow milkweed? And you know the answer. So I'm going to let you give it. >> Well, you grow milkweed because this is the primary food source for larvae, right? The monarch of the monarch butterfly. Exactly. >> It's the it's like the panda bear is to the bamboo. Milkweed is to the to the monarch butterfly. Now these are seeds that I gathered last fall with my grandchildren. Here's a question. True or false, ross, in the second world war, canadian children were given the job to go out and harvest milkweed seeds like these to stuff life saving jackets for the canadian navy. True or false ? >> Well, you offered a lot of detail there, so I have to say true. Mark it's absolutely like you helped me out a little bit. >> True. And so when next time you look at milkweed seeds, you'll look at them very differently when you know that that's an actual true story. Right. And from one pod, I grew over 500 milkweed plants in my greenhouse. Wow. So there are there are a lot of there's a lot of potential. Yes in a in a milk. >> I see that seed pod. >> Wow. But it's just one of so many plants that produce a flower that attracts pollinators. Look at this. It looks like it's snowing here, that produce that produce flowers that attract pollinating insects to your garden. I happened to bring one here called lupine, of course. And a lot of our maritime viewers are laughing right now saying, why on earth would you grow a lupine when they grow in the ditch? Out here at the end of the driveway and the answer is, have you ever seen anything so beautiful? >> I think it looks it's remarkable. >> Yeah. They attract bumblebees, right? They attract they attract bumblebees being native bees and there's not one bumblebee. There are dozens of different species. Right but the point being, what a great plant to put in your garden to attract pollinators. I love this victoria blue salvia. >> Favorite colour? This this purple. Yeah. >> It's beautiful. Well and the truth is there are not a lot of plants that produce true blue. I could name maybe four. Okay. And this is one of them. It's called
