Two early goals from Mayra Ramirez and Sandy Baltimore were enough to see Chelsea beat Arsenal in their London derby on Saturday.

Scorers: Foord 43′; Ramirez 4′, Baltimore 16′

These two sides came into this Emirates clash having enjoyed and endured entirely different starts to the campaign.

Chelsea were riding high having just beaten Barcelona in the Champions League whilst Arsenal were embarrassed at Bayern Munich and sitting in mid-table in the WSL with just one win.

And it went from bad to worse for the Gunners as Chelsea led early on through Mayra Ramirez’s fourth minute goal.

The west London outfit then doubled their advantage just moments later as Sandy Baltimore headed in at the back post.

Just before the break though, the hosts pulled one back as Caitlin Foord finished from the most unlikely of angles.

As Arsenal pushed for an equaliser in the second half, gaps were appearing in their defence.

Lauren James capitalised on that space on the hour mark and thought she had a shout for a penalty after a lunge from Lotte Wubben-Moy – the referee though, waved play on.

Arsenal kept pushing however, and thought they had equalised with five minutes left only for Stina Blackstenius’ close-range shot to come off the crossbar.

Chelsea breathed a huge sigh of relief and held on for a hard-fought three points.
