Chelsea are leading the race for Rangers left back Jefte, with the Scottish club braced for bids in the summer according to reports.

The Blues have been quiet in January so far, but with the window now into the final week this is the stage where things start to pick up.

Chelsea are yet to make any signings, although they have agreed a deal with Strasbourg to sign Mamadou Sarr for €15m, with the teenager set to make the switch in the summer.

It’s no secret Chelsea are looking to add an attacker before the window shuts and they have been linked with Mathys Tel and Liam Delap.

However, there are other areas of the squad which need improving, and following the departure of Renato Veiga to Juventus on loan, the Blues are light at left back.

Currently there’s no back up to Marc Cucurella, although both Malo Gusto and Reece James have played there  at times this season.

A left back is surely on Chelsea’s radar for the summer, given the Athletic have reported they wouldn’t sign one this month.

Rangers Review have now reported Chelsea are leading the race for left back Jefte, with Rangers expecting a lot of summer interest in the Brazilian.

The report adds Chelsea have made initial contact with Jefte’s representatives to ask about a potential move at the end of the season.

The 21-year-old made the switch to Ibrox from Brazilian side Fluminense last May and has established himself as one Rangers best performers this season.

He’s made 34 appearances in all competitions and is under contract until 2028, but it appears Rangers would do well to hold onto him beyond the end of the season.

Left back is certainly an area which should be looked at, given there could be doubts over Veiga’s long term future, whilst Jefte certainly fits the recruitment model in terms of age.

He’s also unlikely to command a high fee and there would be significant resell value, which is very important under this ownership.
