Chelsea forwards earn huge comparison from former Blue
Joe Cole has said Chelsea’s win at West Ham provided a ‘real glimpse of what this new Chelsea is capable of’.
Enzo Maresca claimed a third consecutive away win since his appointment in the summer as the Blues swept aside West Ham at the London Stadium.
Nicolas Jackson scored twice inside the opening 18 minutes to continue his excellent start to the campaign, before the Senegal striker turned provider to tee up Cole Palmer for the third.
Chelsea climb to second in the Premier League table ahead of the remaining weekend games and former favourite Cole was impressed with the performance of his old side.
He reserved added praise for Chelsea’s counter-attacking threat and said some of their football reminded him of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side ‘with Sadio Mane, Mo Salah and (Roberto) Firmino’.
“Chelsea were dominant, strong, positive, all the things Chelsea fans having been longing to say about their team,” Cole, who played for Chelsea and Liverpool, said to TNT Sports.
“West Ham couldn’t lay a glove on them. It was a real strong showing all over the park. This could be the firsts time we have seen a real glimpse of what this new Chelsea is capable of.
“That is what the Chelsea fans want to see. From start to finish every player played their part. They look like a club moving in the right direction. I haven’t seen Chelsea fans as happy as that for a long, long time.
“They look like they have a clear way of playing, they look like a happy team. The counter-attacking was exceptional, there were glimpses which reminded me of the Liverpool side with Sadio Mane, Mo Salah and Firmino. Finally things are starting to turn and Chelsea fans can be quietly optimistic.”
