Chelsea forward Romelu Lukaku has reached an agreement with Napoli to join the club on a three-year contract.

The Belgium international has agreed personal terms with the Serie A side, whose head coach Antonio Conte is keen to reunite with a player he previously worked with at Inter Milan.

Lukaku is free to leave Chelsea after spending the past two seasons out on loan, having disappointed since his £97.5m club-record return to West London in 2021.

The 31-year-old scored 21 goals in all competitions on loan at AS Roma last season and has scored 70 goals in 129 career appearances in Serie A.

Napoli want Lukaku to replace Victor Osimhem, who is nearing a move to Paris Saint-Germain. Osimhen’s exit is delaying Lukaku’s transfer to Naples, according to Sky Germany, with the Italian side currently only able to offer €25m (£21m), short of Chelsea’s €40m (£33.7m) valuation.

PSG are expected to pay a fee in the region of £109m for Osimhen which will free funds for Napoli to reinvest, with a deal for Lukaku the club’s number one priority.

Developments over Osimhen’s transfer to the French champions are expected to accelerate next week with the forward left out of the squad for Napoli’s 3-0 friendly win over Mantova on Saturday.
