As per Simon Johnson and Matt Woosnam of The Athletic, Chelsea are considering triggering their option to recall Trevoh Chalobah from his loan at Crystal Palace.

The 25-year-old’s loan is set to expire at the end of this season, but amid recent injuries to key centre backs Benoit Badiashile and Wesley Fofana – the latter of whom may be out for the rest of the campaign – Chelsea may bring Chalobah back to bolster their options in defensive areas.

However, this is just one potential solution for the Blues, with the likes of Levi Colwill, Tosin Adarabioyo, and Axel Disasi all available.

However, Disasi has only started four Premier League games from right-back under manager Enzo Maresca and, following a disappointing performance in a 2-0 loss to Ipswich, was on the sidelines this weekend against Palace as 18-year-old Josh Acheampong made his league debut alongside Colwill.

Chelsea have also recalled Argentinian Aaron Anselmino from Boca Juniors, where he was loaned back to for the rest of the 2024/25 season after initially signing for the West London club in the summer.

The 19-year-old’s immediate future is currently unknown but is set to be decided following his introduction to first-team training. Therefore, many of Maresca’s defensive options as either young and inexperienced, or out of favour.

Chalobah may provide a solution. The Englishman is capable of playing across the backline and attains Premier League experience, having started 12 games and scored three goals as part of a Palace back three that has kept as many clean sheets (4) as Chelsea this season.

Stating that Chalobah is “playing very well for us” Oliver Glasner has been satisfied with expressed satisfaction with the defenders recent performances for the Eagles and is keen to keep him, however The Athletic report that the Selhurst Park Club are still happy with their other option.

Summer signing Maxence Lacroix and club captain Marc Guéhi have been consistent performers, other summer recruit Chadi Riad has returned to the squad following a knee injury sustained in August, whilst Chris Richards and Nathaniel Clyne have both covered in Glasner’s back three called upon.
