Chelsea: Conor Gallagher set for Atletico Madrid medical after rejecting Premier League move
Conor Gallagher is set to undergo a medical with Atletico Madrid this week after agreeing a deal to leave Chelsea.
Atletico Madrid will pay around £33million for the England midfielder, who has agreed personal terms on a long-term contract with the La Liga giants.
Gallagher has been given permission by Chelsea undergo a medical, with the deal due to be wrapped up this week.
Chelsea accepted a £33m offer from Atletico Madrid last week and both clubs gave the 24-year-old until the end of the weekend to make his decision.
Gallagher had the option to extend his contract at Chelsea, which was due to expire next year.
Two other top six Premier League clubs are understood to have enquired about Gallagher over the past few days, but he has decided to move to Spain.
Chelsea had to resolve his future this month they would have risked losing him for free next summer.
Gallagher was a regular for Chelsea last season and played more minutes in the Premier League than any other player in the Blues squad.
The academy graduate regularly captained the side in the absence of Reece James and his form under Mauricio Pochettino earned him a spot in the England squad for Euro 2024.
Following the departure of Pochettino, and with his contract running down, Gallagher has been heavily linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge all summer.
Aston Villa and Tottenham have been credited with an interest in the midfielder, but he will now continue his career under Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid.
The La Liga side are on an aggressive recruitment drive this summer and are also reportedly keen on Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez.
