Chelsea complete signing of French youth international defender Mpomé
Chelsea have completed the signing of French youth international defender Maelys Mpomé on a four-year deal.
WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Blues this afternoon.
The 21-year-old joins Chelsea from French Arkema Première Ligue club Montpellier HSC. Mpomé has featured for La Paillade in the last four seasons, making more than 60 appearances for the club in all competitions.
On the international stage, Mpomé has represented France at various youth levels up to and including under-23 level. She is yet to break into Les Bleues’ senior squad.
After completing her move to Chelsea, Mpomé said “I am really excited to be here. It’s just like living a dream to join such a big club. Now I just can’t wait to meet the team and start training.
Also commenting on the deal, Chelsea’s general manager, Paul Green said “Maelys has good experience for her age and has developed well at Montpellier in the last few years.
“She is a tall and athletic defender whose profile we believe will suit the WSL. We look forward to seeing her further develop and improve in the upcoming years.”
Mpomé becomes Chelsea’s sixth signing of the summer transfer window.
