Chelsea’s £52M-Rated Outcast ‘Makes Sense’ For PSG’s Attack Boost, Expert Says
Christopher Nkunku has drawn interest from Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain, with reports hinting that his stint at Chelsea, who brought him in for £52 million in 2023, might soon be over.
Graeme Bailey of TBR Football reported last week that Nkunku is likely to leave Chelsea in January after struggling to establish himself in the first team. His representatives are now exploring potential opportunities for the French forward.
Despite his determination to fight for a place, it’s clear that the 27-year-old isn’t a regular under Maresca. Nkunku started the season opener against Manchester City but has only made one more Premier League start since, in the match against Southampton.
Expert believes Christopher Nkunku makes sense for PSG
CBS Sports’ Jonathan Johnson appeared on the latest PSG Talking podcast, and the French football expert believes that Nkunku returning to his boyhood club makes sense. He notes that the Chelsea outcast fits the bill regarding what manager Luis Enrique wants.
“PSG need to find essentially that player who can play similarly to [Gonçalo] Ramos, be a danger in front of goal, tick the boxes that a false nine requires, but also be prolific enough to be a traditional central attacking figure as well,” Johnson said.
“Somebody like an Nkunku—whether it’s on loan or an ambitious attempt to bring him in permanently—makes sense for this squad. Whether or not it’s something that can be engineered with Chelsea, I know there have been rumors that he’s upset with his current situation. We’ll just have to wait and see. But that is the profile I think makes sense for PSG.”
