Chelsea’s new £11.9m man has everything required to be “world class” says current boss
Strasbourg manager Liam Rosenior believes new Chelsea signing Mamdou Sarr has everything it takes to become a world class centre back.
The Blues agreed a fee with their sister club worth up to €15m for the 19-year-old and he will make the move to Stamford Bridge in the summer.
The Blues have already strengthened their defensive ranks this month by recalling Trevoh Chalobah from Crystal Palace due to injuries to Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile.
Rosenior praises Sarr
The deal for Sarr continues Chelsea’s recruitment policy of looking to sign the best young talent from around Europe and the world.
Sarr only joined Strasbourg from Lyon last summer, but has impressed for them this season, making 15 appearances in all competitions.
Quite what Chelsea’s plan for Sarr is remains to be see as there are currently a number of centre backs on the books, with several likely to be moved on this month and in the summer.
Axel Disasi is expected to leave, whilst there is interest in Tosin Adarabioyo, with the future of Benoit Badiashile also unclear.
Chelsea already have teenager Aaron Anselmino on the books, whilst they also have Josh Acheampong, with the likelihood of all three making it seemingly slim.
However, Sarr comes with a glowing reference from his current boss Rosenior who believes he has everything to become a world class centre back.
“His temperament, his athleticism, his ability on the ball, he’s got everything you need to be a world-class centre-half,” he told The Athletic.

Chelsea fans will certainly be keeping an eye on Sarr’s development over the second half of the season, but it appears the Blues could have a top draw centre back on their books.
If Sarr is good enough to go straight into the Chelsea squad and compete for minutes remains to be seen, but Chelsea certainly seem to believe in his talent, and it will be interesting to see what impact if any he makes at the club.
