Here are some opening-round highlights from the annual William Jewell Holiday Classic high school basketball tournament, which is taking place at the Mabee Center at William Jewell College in Liberty.

The tournament field — featuring 24 teams playing a total of 33 scheduled games in four days — is broken into three brackets: The Patterson, Nelson and Holley divisions.

Park Hill South 58, Winnetonka 52

Park Hill South delivered the big stunner of the Jewell Classic on Friday night.

The Panthers, who entered the 45th annual tournament with a 2-4 record, dealt previously undefeated Winnetonka a 58-52 loss in an opening-round Patterson Division game.

Carson Bjourn scored a game-high 19 points to lead Park Hill South. Bjourn hit two of his three 3-pointers in the third period to help the Panthers take the lead after a 25-25 halftime tie.

Jaylen Craig paced the Griffins, ranked No. 12 in the 810 Varsity Top 25, with 18 points.

Park Hill South will face Blue Springs South in the semifinals at noon Sunday, while Winnetonka plays Pembroke Hill in the consolation bracket.

Blue Springs South 74, Pembroke Hill 32

Blue Springs South felt the holiday cheer and spread the wealth as 10 Jaguars scored in an opening-round win.

Blue Springs South, ranked No. 11 in the 810 Varsity Top 25, coasted past Pembroke Hill in a first-round Patterson tilt.

Chris Ellis led the way with 17 points, while Bryon Gold tossed in 15 for Blue Springs South (5-2).

Mavrick Hawkins paced the Raiders with 13 points.

The Jaguars will face Park Hill South in the semifinals at noon Sunday.

Raytown 59, Center 45

Raytown jumped to an early 19-9 lead and never looked back.

The Bluejays, ranked No. 9 in the 810 Varsity Top 25, got 21 points from Larry Porter IV to advance to the Patterson Division semifinals.

Jacob Wood added 19 points for Raytown (7-1).

Raytown will face St. Michael the Archangel at 1:30 pm Sunday, while Center faces Lincoln Prep in the consolation bracket.

St. Michael the Archangel 74, Lincoln Prep 42

Michael Weis looked great in his return from injury and helped boost St. Michael the Archangel to its first Jewell Classic semifinal appearance in three years.

The junior scored a game-high 21 points after a two-week hiatus to lead the Guardians. Fellow junior Josh Wheeler added 17.

St. Michael the Archangel face Raytown in the semifinals at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, while Lincoln Prep takes on Center in the consolation bracket.
