Charlton Athletic have completed the signing of former Sheffield United full-back Charlotte Newsham on a free transfer.

The Addicks announced the news via a post on their official club website this afternoon.

Newsham joins the South East Londoners upon the expiry of her contract with Sheffield United.

The 24-year-old defender has spent the last three years with Sheffield United after joining the club from Blackburn Rovers in summer 2021. Newsham made 56 appearances for The Blades in the Barclays Women’s Championship in which she scored three goals.

Newsham displayed strong leadership skills in her time at Bramall Lane and she will be hoping to provide another big voice on the pitch for new club Charlton Athletic this season.

After sealing her move to The Valley, Newsham said “I’m delighted to have signed with this club and I’m excited for the season to start.

“After speaking with Karen [Hills] about her aims and ambitions for this team in the next few years, it felt like the right place for me to be in order to develop and take the next step in my career.”

Newsham becomes Charlton Athletic’s fifth summer signing following the recent additions of Gracie Pearse, Katie Bradley, Mel Filis and Jodie Hutton.
