Mayor rob fraser says essential services including hydro and water are now up and running -- with crews working to restore gas. Just a day after declaring a state of local emergency -- harrison hot spring's mayor is rescinding the order. The mayor had shared concerns about wildfires -- but the decision was criticized by othercouncillors. There's only one fire in the area -- about 20-kilometres away -- and it's considered under control. In a statement to glonews -- the ministry of emergency management and climate readiness says: "the ministry was in direct contact with the village of harrison hot springs to determine the reasons behind the declaration of the local state of emergency -- and to ensure a shared understanding of the appropriate use of such declarations." "based on those conversations -- the village agreed to cancel the order in accordance with the emergency and disaster management act." the province will share updated numbers the snowpack today. At the start of this month --there were four basins with less than 50-per cent of a normal snack. They were upper fraser west, lower thompson, skagit, and vancouver island. At last update -- the b-c snowpack was at just 66 per cent of normal levels. The report raised concerns about flooding and drought this levels are exed to have fallen as warmer temperatures first rapid snow melt of the year. Ground has been broken on a new elemen school in langley. Construction is underway on t "north latimer elementary" school in the willoughby heights area. Langley is one of theng communities in b-c -- and to keep up -- the province says the two-storey school will have room for more than 5-hundred students from kindergarten to grade five. Vancouver's hothortage is causing a headache for the tourism industry -- not to mention what will happen during world cut. Now -- two city councillors are proposing a solution. Abc councillors sarah kirby-yung -- and lisa dominato say "pod hotels" could help accomodate the influx of visitors expected during the 2026 fifa world cup. They'll put forward the motion to council n it would change the building bylaw to allow empty office spaces to be converted into pod hotels. The motion says these spaces will help meet demand in the near future -- while the works to approve and constructnew -- larger hotels. Vancouver councillors lisa dominato and lenny zhou are calling for staff to develop aplan to allocate more funding for pedestrian safety measures -- incng new -- controlled signals -- and increased crossings that give pedestrians a hetart before cars proceed. Other traffic- calming measures inclraised zebra crossings -- curb bulges -- and restricting right turns on red lights. Councillors will vote on the motion next wednesday.

(**vo**) in victoria last night for the screening of a documentary on bc's toxic drug crisis. That's a scene from "toxic" -- a film that looks at the need for a safe supply to address the staggering number of british columbians who die frm fentanyl and other drug poisonings each year. The docmentary's director -- global bc camerman rob colbourne -- is hoping it can be shown in high schools across the province to help educate young people about the risks in today's world. >>we want to tell an honest story down the middle. The b-c government is taking stock of what it may do after it runs out of covid tests. The ministry of health says as of early april -- the province had a combined inventory of one and a half million tests. Many were expired -- but still good for another six-months accolth canada. The ministry adds -- the federal government supplied with another 860-thousand tests is month -- and that it'is looking at options for the future. B-c ferries is getting a $75-million dollar loan to help buy four zero-emission vessels -- and install charging infrastructure. The loan is comirom federal crown corporation *canada infrastructure bank.* in a statement -- it saysterminal upgrades will be done by 20-27 -- and the ferries will be used on small-me -- and shorter routes. The vessels will join six -- hybrid eric -- island-class ferries that have joined the fleet over the last two years. Despite the removal of a transit shelter -- the city of vancouver says it is still committed to the idea of a streetcar line along the south side of false creek. The city has removed the shelter at the old "olympic streetcar stop" near granville island -- due to its deteriorating condition. More than "8-million dollars" was spent refurbish the tracks for a streetcar between olympic village and granville island for the olympics -- but the line was shutdown shortly after. The city says there are no plans -- at this time -- to remove the tracks... With the idea being to preserve them for a future streetcar line a the corridor.
