Stream on StackTVand the GlobalTV app. >> Announcer: you're watching global bc. This is global news at noon. >> Jennifer: good afternoon.here are some of the stories we are following this hour. >> Speaker: we're working hard to manage circumstances that have been tough on the global economy. >> Jennifer: two projects that aren't chuggin' along, that could impact residents, businesses and ultimately the bc onomy, plus. >> Speaker: I said enougs enough, we have to report this. >> Jennifer: the death of a woman has the iio investigating a complaint to the rcmp. Did police not pay attention to a concern from the victim priorto her death? Good afternoon, I'm jennifer palma thanks for joining us. We begin with breaking new the transportation safety board confirms it is investigating a fatal plane crash in the squamish area. It's believed the light aircraft went down friday evening near woodfibre across from porteau cove.the tsb says itis currently coordinating with squamish rcmp and the coroner. Few other details have been released such as the type of plane, how many people wree on board or what caused the plane to go down. The bc wildfirrvice is responding to a new wildfireproximately 5 kilometres north of spences bridge. The fire is estimated at 30 hectares in size and is classified as out of control. The flames are bur a steep slope with a moderate rate of spreading. No structures are currently being threaten three initial attack crews are working with two helicopters and a birddog plane to fight the blaze. The roughly fohousand people evacuated from fort nelson are being told to be patient, as it could still be days before they're allowed back home. A public meeting was held friday afternoon to inform residents that essential services are slowly being restored after the parker lake wildfire nearly two weeks ago. Thwn is still without a functioning hospital. But the mayor promises, a phas return is close. >> Speaker: I catell you whether it's going to be sunday or monday. Really there's just too ma cies out there who have some measure of control in respect to bringing up their own facilitiesthat we are being advised are back to the community. Urning residents are being warned to expect to see changes to the town such as burned recreation areas and trees removed, as well as spoiled food and smoke damage in their homes. The completion dates for major infrastructure projects in metro vancouver are being pushed back, again. The announnt buried in a friday afternoon handout from the bcernment, touting milestones for the projects. Here is catherine urquhart >> Catherine: the 2.83 billion dollar broadway subway line was scheduled to open in 2025. Then it was delayed to 2026. And now it's expected to be operational in 2027, frustrating users and businesses owners. >> Speaker: d to reduce hours, we used to open from 9 to 9, we dn't afford the rent and wage averything, all the expense is the same, our sales dropped, we had to tight o belts, I had to lay off some people, reduce hours, reduce inventory. >> C the new 1.37 billion dollar patullo replacement bridge. Construction challenges have pushed its expected opening to 2025. >> Speaker: the problem is every time these projects either go behind schedule or over budget or both, that rests other capital projects from being undertaken without a hit to our deficit. >> Catherine: later openings on the two mega projects couldn't be helped, according to bc's transportation minister. >> Speaker: we had some unavoidable ys, first one in a century pandemic made it difficult to staff up to keep going to figure out safe work protocols, and the also you know there's been conflict around the woblock shipping lands, the red sea has not been in function we have parts coming that are needed in stages of the construction. >> Catherine: along the broadway subway line, it's costing people. >> Speaker: our sales dropped about 30 to 50%, average 30 some days 50% compared to before the construction. Atherine: the final price tags on the two mega projectsare still unknown. Catherine urquhart, global news. >> Jennifer: there are growing calls for delta mayor george harvie to cancel his upcoming trip to the netherlands. Harvie is taking the trip as a metro vancouver representative even though his councillors voted to remove him from the board, of which he is chair. At metro vancouver until july 1 so he could attend the amsterdam

conference on diking systems. Data from metro vancouver shows harvie has already incurred more than 32,000 dollars in expenses this year,ch included a trip to brisbane, auss amsterdam trip is 5,300 dollars. >> Speaker: mayor harvieuld absolutely cancel his trip to amsterdam. It's unacceptable for this mayor who has already been removed from his position at metro vancouver to be billing taxpayers to jet to the netherlands. There's absolutely no value in this as far as we can see. >> Jennifer: in an email, harvie's office said in part, he will remain a member of the mayors' committee, where the learnings from the trip will contino be valuable to the region. There o chance of a merger between bc's two right-of-centre parties before the election. That is the l word friday. But as richard zussman reports, what happened depends on who you talk to. >> Richard: it's a deal no dead. >> Telford: I think both sides are a bit desperate, because if they do indeed divide the vote. They will almost surely hand victory to the ndp. >> Richard: bc united le kevin falcon laying out friday at is proposed for the conservative party of bc and was rejected. Was not a merger for the two parties, but rather a commitment for the sides not to attack each otduring the campaign and to form a coalition government of the two parties had enough seats added on. >> Falcon: in any arrangement both parties have to give up something, and that's hard to do. Ichard: the bc conservatives continue to gain momentum sitting at 32% province wide in a recent research poll. Bc united going the other way, tied for third with the greens, >> Falcon: foryears the bc conservatives, which are a separate party from the federal conservatives, have not elec a single mla in british colombia, and there is a lot re an election then what the polls are saying. >> Richard: the bc united proposal stipulated conservatives could not run against the 15 united incumbents, and in turn, bc un would not run candidates against the two conservative incumbents. In total, the conservatives would've had 47 candidates and bc united 46. So they did not go up against each other and potentially split votes. A draft would have taken place to pick the ridings where incumbents weren't running. >> Rustad: we have beery clear as the conservative party of british cola that we will be running 93 candidates, and that's the expectation by the people of britislumbia that they are looking for political party that is going to be able to elect a government. You are running half your candidates, then you can't be taken seriously. >> Richard: this giving the bc ndp an easy attack against their opponents.>> Kahlon: these guys are so out of touch, I mean british columbians are dealing with cost of inflation, they are dealing with challenges around althcare and housing, and they are squabbling over back room deals. >> Richard: and making it once again clear, bc united is a struggling to live up to the united'se. Richard zussman, global news, victoria. >> Jennifer: first nations in the tiny central coast community of bella bella rallied outside their rcmp detent friday afternoon, calling for the s officers. A number of offensive facebook posts haen identified and linked to constable adrian robin using a pseudonym. They include one from 2014 ofhim posing in colonial regalia with the comment "'s to be done about these pesky natives stirring up trouble in the colonies the heiltsuk nation is demanding his immediate removal but the rcmp are refusing a code of conduct investigation because posts were made prior to robinson becoming a mountie. >> Speaker: these powere unacceptable and absolutely racist it's been concerning. People havlt like they don't want to call the rcmp, they are hesitant to call the rcmp. It leads to miss trust with the rcmp. >> Jennifer: the northern district rcmp says it is committed to addressing the concerns through a fair process. The heiltsuk nation say it's been told a transfer oe officer is underway but could up to 90 days. In the interim, robinson will continue to serve the community under the supervision of anothficer. Her body was found in a wooded area outside of lumby in april and tonight we are learning that tatjana stefanski went to police expressing safety concerns four months prior to her death. How that report was handled by rcmp is now the subject of an investigation by bc's police watchdog. Klaudia van emmerik reports.>> Speaker: I am just bringing her home it took a lot to drum up the strength to bring her home, s here with men all jason geaudrault has left of tatjana anski, his partner of four years. >> Speaker: I just wanted her to come home in reafe.
