Davioper is the founder of leading mobility and a supervising author of the independent report "this is the end of the line" and joins us now with more. Thanks for being here. >> Speaker: thanks for having me jennifer. >> Jennifer: the title end of the line, is it the end of the line with nding? What are they doing right and wrong. >> Speaker: so what ispening right now is we are seeing a conversation across canada about the shortalls with the day-to-day service the way we've donevice across canada is not workinge've had shortfalls on service but then we also have the situation of what were looking at with the role of the govent in overall transit funding but then also what revenue tools are possible to help generate to help day to day service but then also futureserve that is needed to address population forther consideration. >> Jennifer: what are some of the recommendations then establish specifically for translink and the province >> Speakfirst, we actually want to look at the fed when we're looking at the countries with different needs of fundingtransit through the gas tax property funding g port and other cities and it has stepped up in bc in terms ooperty funding and in the pandemic, but we need to find a way past 2025 and the fundinnds to continue in the shortfall, and every year starting in 2026 let alone the langley skytrain and we need to find different ways for when it comes to funding the day to day service. >> Jennifer: I guess, and the ideas of how they can fund that service? Any levies or fees? >> Speaker: I know other people don't like levies and fees and some of thtals might be finding a country vancouver actually has an transit but that is the one we look at legislation coming up to reduce and eliminate gas we need to eliminate revenue tools and to discuss before, metro vancouver isething that is also looking at. To offset the losses, but other sdictions will need the decision to say look at tools in

other ways to monitor service because it's important for us to have reliable and frequent services to access and the results have actually been used in 33 states and they have what say the authority to do the local suppor do. These are things that are not uncommon of places for metro vancouver.>> Jennifer: do we need a national transit commission or something like t >> Speaker: yes, part of what's happening is in terms of funding and we have significant support funding and it's one thing to build and we actually can't afford and operate them but there is a significant reason 25 percent of funding and the ited states comes from the us government because they see that when it comes to equity and the ability and the climate and we have some of the same pressure when it comes to that when it comes to people for the region and there is a reason for the federal government to help operate, and I think that's part of the conversation that cities, and of the province will be very keen to have one of them. >> Jennifer: this is definiteconversation that should keep going and needs to be fuelled if you will, because they need to figure out something and how get all the infrastructure products continuing to move, thank you so much for your time today that is david cooper, thanks. >> Speaker: thanks for hg me.
