Championship strugglers Oxford sack boss Des Buckingham
Championship strugglers Oxford United have sacked coach Des Buckingham.
Buckingham has been relived of his duties at the Kassam Stadium just seven months after he guided the club back to the second tier for the first time in over 25 years.
Oxford United can confirm that Des Buckingham has left his role as Men’s First Team Head Coach.
The Club would like to place on record its thanks to Des for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future.— Oxford United (@OUFCOfficial) December 15, 2024
The Oxford-born coach was a fan favourite but things have taken a turn for the worst in recent months with the Yellows having lost five of their last six matches.
Saturday's defeat to Sheffield Wednesday was the last straw for the board with Buckingham getting his marching orders this afternoon.
Oxford travel to Leeds next weekend before crunch games against Plymouth, Cardiff and Millwall over the Christmas period.
