An outgoing transfer from Manchester City elsewhere into the Premier League is set to financially benefit one club competing in next season’s EFL Championship.

That concerns Liam Delap and an exit from the Etihad Stadium in the coming days, after Manchester City simultaneously accepted two bids from Premier League clubs this week leaving the final decision in the hands of the player.

Following three successive loan deals in the Championship, Delap is now destined for his first consistent taste of Premier League football during the upcoming season, with a choice of between Ipswich Town and Southampton as his next career move.

It is widely understood that the Premier League champions have accepted bids worth an initial £15 million with an additional £5 million due in potential add-ons, whilst Manchester City will retain a 20 per cent sell-on and buy-back clause in any finalised agreement.

But whilst Manchester City will no doubt be making a significant profit on a player they recruited at scholarship level five years ago, Delap’s former Academy club will also be reaping the rewards of his excellent development in the game.

According to the information of Derbyshire Live, Championship club Derby County inserted a sell-on clause into the deal that took striker Liam Delap from Pride Park to Manchester City in the summer of 2019.

Liam Delap first joined Manchester City’s academy system in the summer of 2019 from Derby County, impressing from a young age and being capped at several youth levels with the England set-up.

After scoring on his Manchester City first-team debut in 2020 in the Carabao Cup against Bournemouth, the 2021/22 campaign would go on to see Delap earn debuts in the Premier League, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League.

The youngster’s first tastes of senior football would see a loan move to Stoke City and Preston North End in the first and second-halves of the 2022/23 campaign, while last season saw the striker secure consistent game time under Liam Rosenior at Hull City.
