Man is dead, another in critical condition after a double shooting outside of a mississauga school last night. >> Nathan: yellow crime tape surrounds the parking lot of settlers green public school this morning as a police investigation gets underway. Ctv's john musselman is live this morning to bring us the very latest. >> Reporter: nathan, police remainrhere on the scene as you mentioned. It is sealed off. Police are gathering evidence inside the parking lot but as we can confirm, one man is dead, another man is in critical condition. Police say the shooting happened in the school parking lot just after 11 o'clock last night. The scene is on monte vaedo road near glen aaron road and battleford road in mississauga. One man is dead and a second man is in critical condition. >> Some form of gathering here at the lots on the east side of

the school. The nature of that gathering is unknown at this time, but there was some sort of altercation that occurred between the two victims and either a suspect or suspects. The number right now we're unclear. >> Reporter: evidence markers were placed throughout the parking lot as police continue the investigation. The school is open today and there will be a heavy police presence to maintain the scene and ensure the wellbeing of the students. Neighbours say the gun violence is unsettling. >> Like, I'm just shaking, because even last night, we thought it was just fireworks going off. And so like, just because of the victoria day weekend, you know. So -- >> It's crazy, like I never thought this area would have that kind of stuff, you know. It's like -- we moved here because it's like a really safe, like nice part of mississauga so -- like really scary. >> Reporter: police say the two victims were known to each other. The motive for the shooting remains under investigation. Police are canvassing the neighbourhood for any surveillance video that might show what happened in the parking lot and possibly identify any suspects or vehicles that were involved in this shooting. And now at this point there's not much to go on as far as suspects are concerned or even what vehicles may have been involved here. Anyone with information is asked to call peel regional police. It happened on batchford crescent in the donald cousins pork way and steels avenue just after 10 last night. One american was injured and taken to hospital but is expected to recover. There's no word on what caused the driver to veer off the road and smash into the house. >> Michelle: a teenaged boy is dead and a man is facing charges after a crash in vaughan. It happened around 10:45 tuesday night near martin grove and lang staff. Police say the 16-year-old boy who died was riding a minibike when he was struck at a four way stop near jackman crescent. 24-year-old harnoor caiohan is charged in the crash. >> The driver of the vehicle at the collision was subsequently arrested and charged for dangerous operation causing death, fail to stop after an accident causing death and possession of a controlled substance. We are appealing for any witnesses to come forward who may have dashcam footage, surveillance video from their homes to please come forward and contact our investigators, as well as any doorbell cameras as well at the residence to please come forward. >> Michelle: police say the man was out on bail on unrelated charges at the time of the crash. The 16-year-old boy who was killed hasn't been identified. >> Nathan: meanwhile, police services from across the gta gathered to launch their latest crackdown on street racing and stunt driving. It's called "project erase", standing for eliminate racing activity on streets everywhere. Toronto police say they laid over 1400 had stunt driving charges in 2023 and nearly 600 so far this year. Alongside hundreds of related criminal charges. But ac incidents take place across the region, police say street racing has no boundaries and they are committed to stamping it out. >> It's crucial for people to understand the risks associated with illegal street racing and the potential consequences. Not only for themselves but for other users of our roads. We want to emphasize the importance of keeping racing activities confined to legal racetracks. This is essential for public safety. >> If you choose to participate in dangerous and illegal driving, you will be investigated, you will be identified, your vehicle will be seized and you will be charged criminally or provincially. We utilize helicopters, unmarked vehicles and the deployment of specially trained officers to help us achieve our goals. >> Nathan: as project erase gets underway, police are also encouraging anyone who sees or hears of dangerous driving activity to get in touch. >> Michelle: meanwhile, provincial police are sharing the results of a stolen vehicles investigation involving a number of classic cars. Police say they received a complaint last year regarding approximately $3 million worth of allegedly stolen cars. Last week they say they found and seized 16 of the vehicles in question in sterling north of belleville. Two local men in their 50s face theft, fraud and conspiracy charges. >> Nathan: the on-scene investigation into a deadly boat crash on the lake north of kingston has wrapped up with new details emerging. >> The water search and recovery unit will all do their part along with the reconstructionist and traffic collision investigators to determine what caused this collision between two vessels. >> Nathan: three people between the ages of 21 and 23 were killed when a speed boat collided with a fishing boat on bobs lake saturday night.
