There's no word yet on a cause or damage estimate. The province's police watchdog is investigating after a police shooting in northeast edmonton. Police say a uniformed officer came across a man with the weapon saturday night at a gas station on 93rd street and one 44th avenue. The officer immediately called for backup. There was a confrontation and the officer fired. The man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police say they found a suspected conductive energy weapon at the scene. A 29 year-old man is in hospital with serious injuries after a shooting in south edmonton. Officers were called to a parkade near southgate centre saturday night after several reports of gunshots. When police arrived, they found a man who had been shot. The eps firearms unit is investigating. Thousands of albertans are uniting against the ucp government. Protests were held around the province on saturday. A number of groups spoke about changes to alberta's healthcare, education and affordability. People in attendance believe the ucp is not listening to the concerns of albertans. >> Just regular albertans coming together and saying that, you know, this government doesn't represent her interests, they're distracted by things that we really don't care about. A positive sign for alberta's energy sector. The university plans to restart the program next fall. It stopped admitting students to its petroleum engineering degree program in 2021. The decision happened after a multi-year period of low oil prices and widespread energy sector layoffs. Oil prices have since rebounded and all companies have been generating strong profits over 2 years. A spokesperson says the university is once again seeing demand from young people interested in oil and gas careers. We're expecting to learn more today about a ground-breaking pilot project aimed at transforming cancer treatment in our province. The sentiment project uses magnets to dramatically improve cancer surgery and the patient experience that that magnetic seed is inserted at the tumour site, locating it for doctors. This allows for less complicated scheduling, fewer imaging appointments and invasive procedures in college is leading the project hopes this pilot will show the benefits of magnetic markers leading to its use across the province. There will be a funding announcement in calgary later this morning. In a canadian first, a high-tech basketball training facility is now open in the edmonton area. 2, 3, 60's first training centre is in sherwood park. It uses technology to teach players how to properly shoot pass and dribble.
