CFP rankings projections, predictions

These predictions were prior to Saturday's Week 10 games.

USA TODAY: Texas at No. 6 seed

Matt Hayes writes: "A difficult natural letdown game, and a gutty fourth-quarter win. A bye week before Florida comes to Austin Nov. 9."

CBS Sports: Oregon at No. 1 seed

Jerry Palm writes: "The Ducks are making the most of their Big Ten debut as wins over Ohio State and Illinois have them well positioned for a shot at the Big Ten Championship Game. Road trips to Michigan and Wisconsin are the biggest road blocks."

Bleacher Report: Indiana Hoosiers will earn a spot

Joe Tansey writes: "The Indiana Hoosiers and Pittsburgh Panthers are two of the eight remaining undefeated teams in the FBS. Indiana is already up to No. 13 in the AP poll and it will likely be 10-0 by the time it faces Ohio State on November 23. The Hoosiers will be an underdog in Columbus, but if they can somehow manage to win that game, they will be a lock to make the playoff."

The Athletic: Tennessee at 11 seed

The Athletic ranks the Volunteers as the third-best team in the SEC, projecting a CFP game against No. 6 Penn State. The winner will then face No. 3 Georgia in the quarterfinal round.

ESPN: Alabama out

Heather Dinich writes: "This is the first time a two-loss team has crept into this category, but (1) more teams have two losses, and (2) Alabama finally put together an impressive performance against a decent Missouri team. The Nov. 9 trip to LSU is the best remaining chance to impress the committee."
