Poll results: Bellefonte girls soccer player named athlete of the week for Sept. 9-15
A Bellefonte girls soccer player was the Centre County athlete of the week for Sept. 9-15, according to readers of CentreDaily.com.
Bellefonte’s Madelyn Fallon netted a hat trick for the Raiders against Philipsburg-Osceola during that week, bringing her to 12 goals on the season.
Fallon had 734 votes, or 64% of the poll.
Below is a look at the other nominees, which were submitted by school athletic directors:
Isaac Opperman, State College boys cross country: State College won the team championship at the 2024 Spiked Shoe Invitational and was led at the event by Isaac Opperman. Opperman ran the race in 15:19.00, finishing first overall.
Lilly Smith, Penns Valley girls cross country: Penns Valley’s Lilly Smith is well on her way to another appearance at the state meet after qualifying last season. She has placed first in all of the Rams’ conference meets so far this season, including during the nominating week at Bellwood-Antis.
She came in second in the poll, with 361 votes, or 32%.
Owen Robb, Penns Valley boys soccer: Penns Valley boys soccer was 5-2 on the year thanks in part to goalkeeper Owen Robb’s ability in net. He recorded 17 saves across three straight shutouts against Tyrone, Clearfield and Mifflinburg.
Joanna Liu, State College girls tennis: State College girls tennis remained undefeated at 10-0 and Joanna Liu — who is first on the team’s ladder — moved to 9-1 on the year with victories over opponents from Northern York and Gettysburg to go 2-0 during the nominating week.
Andy Geresanko, Bellefonte boys soccer: Bellefonte boys soccer’s Andy Geresanko was up to nine goals and three assists on the season. Geresanko — who is also the kicker for the football team — added three goals and an assist in Bellefonte’s two wins during the nominating week.
