born this past weekend, maybe three months until they're a little bit bigger so we can have them spayed and neutered and put up for adoption, as well. >> Brittany: what do you do when you see a situation of this size? >> Yeah, housing. We were full at that time, as well, so we were looking for housing. Animal control were able to take a part of them in. Our foster department immediately went to work. They called in more staff. We take in over 150 foster applicants within three hours, and then, the next day we start sending them out to foster, and then we take in the next group. So housing and human resources really the biggest challenge. At the same time, we also want to make sure that even they come from that crowded situation doesn't mean we can put them in a crowded situation again in our shelter, so it's a lot of coordination within so many departments in it our shelter and the help with volunteers and foster homes. >> Riley: you mentioned the number of fosters and human resources that stepped up. How did they help you in this situation? >> We have so many people come in. I have a lady come in with at least three big bags of cookies that she made. She also gave us a bag of hand made collars, and then, we had people come in with a bag of toys, their childhood toys, and they decided, let's give it to the puppies. We also had a lot of pee-pads, towels, bed spreads, a lot of resources to use. >> Brittany: we can tell that they are a little shaky, so they're little scared. If people come in and want to adopt one of these dogs that came from this situation, what is it that they need to know? >> Yeah, a lot of animals coming from a situation like this can be shy around a lot of people. They were not exposed to a lot of things outside that household. My understanding is they never set foot outside of that house. Going outside and going for walks, you need to take it slow and always have them on a collar. Just be very gentle with them. Minnie over there, for example, is very scared when people approach her. She would rather take her own pace to get close to you, to gain the trust, so I urge every family to just be patient with them. They are not regular dogs. They come from traumatic situation, so patience and understanding is needed. >> Riley: if people have questions, what should they do? >> They can call us and there's a reduced price for their adoptions. It's our way to thank the community for overwhelming support for us. >> Brittany: thank you for bringing them in today. >> Thank you. >> Brittany: since the seizure, phones of course at the humane society have been ringing off the hook. They had 50 enquiries about these dogs just overnight. >> Riley: but they say they have a number of dogs, especially bigger and older dogs, that are desperately in need of homes, as well. >> Brittany: we need to take a very quick break.
