[Hyundai sting] >> Ron: we have rick bowness a couple of nights but right to gene principe and elliotte friedman. >> Craig: >> Gene: yeah, ron, we're going back and forth watching here amongst many stars fans and they're not sheering on connor mcdavid but oilers fans are. What do you think of the way the period went? >> Elliotte: I don't think anybody expected what happened for mcdavid, 17 seconds in, he feels matt duchene held his stick here but he lifted his, high stick, caught blood and duchene I think miss the all of the four minute minor getting cleaned up in the room. Here's mcdavid saying I was held, I was held. Doesn't matter, after review he gets the four minutes. The longest four minutes of his career maybe, and then this. There isn't a hockey fan anywhere either in the building or name your place on god's green earth that thought connor mcdavid wasn't going to score there, and oettinger makes the save but whether a a play by chris tanev. He gets the stick too. One of the things that's been kind of talked here about around dallas is whether they be able to keep tanev? And I think they have identified him, especially the way the first two rounds have gone here, as an enormous priority for them. I don't know if they're going to be able to do it, but they want to keep him and that's why. >> Gene: you've been around some of the great athletes and hockey players. Do you think this is something connor will shake off and be able to come back and play stronger in the second overtime? >> Elliotte: craig simpson said it right, at the end of the

power play he was like watch mcdavid come out of the box and you could see he was wired. He played the last 1:40 of this overtime too to try to score the winner. You know he feels fortunate there's a second overtime, and he's going to be as great as anybody is in the next 20 minutes. >> Gene: jake oettinger said this morning I can't stop him by myself but he got help from chris tanev and the panel is still working and so are we. >> Ron: fantastic, gene. Start with stuart skinner. >> Kevin: do you think elliotte will give connor mcdavid the suit back after the game? Can't wear it all night. And stuart skinner, we're thinking there's a question mark in net for edmonton the way last series went. As long as this goes, there's no questions. He's been unbelievable and having guilty shots early -- quality shots early built his confidence. Bones, you called it trap down. It gives up a lot of shots off the flank and they stare down stuart skinner and he held the fort, a lot of great saves. He controlled rebounds too and it was a lot of won faceoffs for dallas, shots, when I whistle. The goaltender has to be your best penalty killer, he was there. >> Luke: you made the observation that the more shots he gets, the better he looks, the more engaged he is and we found stats to back tup. With less than 25 shots, he's 12-10 with a 3.44 goals against and an .848 save percentage. Above 35, a 2.35 goals against. The more shots he gets, the better he plays, the more dialed in he gets and he was outstanding on the penalty kill. Dallas is 0 for 5 now, that's 19 straight for edmonton's penalty kill. And the first two minutes was a lot of skinner but they are doing just such a good job. We call it the trap down, collapsing in the back here. I was getting mad at the beginning, they weren't getting cleared in the first minute and finally started to settle in and continued to squish at the line and really funnel it in just below that blue line, and it's going right down the ice. Good sticks all over. This is wyatt johnston to the outside. They didn't give up too many grade As. I know there was a couple from the d walking down but great job by the edmonton penalty kill. >> Ron: their penalty kill killed off six consecutive double minors back to the regular season. So phenomenal. And rick, you're paying attention to the little details tonight. >> Rick: the details of the game, and again, get in the overtime, you don't want to spend any unnecessary time in the zone. The importance of faceoffs, they win it clean, the puck has to get out. They're spending too much time in their zone. You have to have a plan for every faceoff you win, five guys have gotta be on the same page, and they're spending too much unnecessary time in their zone defending. Again, the details of the game. They had a chance to get it out there. Now you talk about earlier about the trust between a forward and the d. There's ekholm, look at the back check by nugent-hopkins. Details of the game. The d goes down, the forward has gotta back him up, gotta support him. Don't play a three quarter ice game and make bad changes and edmonton got caught. Brown, again he saves a grade a opportunity. But the details of the game are huge, especially when you get into overtime. You don't want to do that, you don't want to play that three quarter ice game because you're just going to defend the whole time. Again, a great back check and he could effort by brown, and you need that in overtime to save the game. >> Kevin: as the game goes on, you have to think the players are like this is game one, like we're in double overtime, we're exhausted. Does it really matter who wins? I remember in game one, 2007 playoffs, mike modano skating around, the legendary captain of dallas, fourth overtime. He's like will somebody score already? It's game one, who cares. We won in seven so game one matters. Watching the body language, they're into the going to give up. >> Ron: kevin, I think the four overtime game, florida and carolina, paul maurice felt it took a toll but we got the win so we had a bit to build on. Luke, leon hasn't been great in the dot until he made a great play here to set up kane. >> Luke: he did. I love set faceoffs. They got a couple of great chances, I'll walk through two. Kevin, this is over the top. >> Kevin: james neal. >> Luke: kaneer into his chest here but this is as grade a as it gets. Wins the draw on the weak side, ties up, evannedder over the top and it's a shot on net. This is called around the world. So it's a draw on leon's strong side so ekholm, he's going d to d and then dart down to the backdoor. You see connor gets lost on the back side all the way around that sports interaction sign. And basically it's going to go around to him and he has the
