>> Announcer: the national hockey league on sportsnet presents the stanley cup playoffs. ( ) ( ) >> Bobrovsky dives to his right with robbery! What a save! Dragula by rob zombie >> Double overtime hero! ( ) dragula by rob zombie >> Can you believe it?! Chris kreider with a natural hat trick! ( ) ( ) >> Hello, canada and hockey fans in the united states and newfoundland. >> This is "hockey night in canada" on sportsnet. >> You want action? We've got action for you here tonight. >> Oh, baby! >> He's in, scores! >> Absolutely amazing! >> Ron: all right, kevin, you got the tune. >> Kevin: yeah, white zombie, first concert I ever went to in 1997. I believe the last time these two met in the playoffs. >> Ron: you're so right, florida/new york met in '97, new york won at that time. It is kind of a party like the 1990s, the oilers won their cup in '90, dallas in '99, new york in '94, florida's first trip to the finals 1996 and lots of things came along that time, titanic, harry potter, google, eBAY and amazon, but for all of us, there was "hockey night in canada" and the stanley cup playoffs on sportsnet presented by rogers. A long way to go for that. How about the lines? >> Kevin: let's look at the rangers lineup. Sometimes when we look at the lineup before a series, we're like, how did these guys get here? Not this lineup. This is a good looking lineup from top to bottom. This "d" is as good as any six right now in the playoffs. Great goaltending, quick obviously stanley cup pedigree, but I'm going to focus on kreider. He's about to play his 22nd playoff series tonight, one behind lundqvist for the most all time as a ranger. Straight line speed, and you noticed it on the penalty kill, you do not want to get in a race with him, especially if that puck is for a breakaway and he showed that against carolina as well. He can create offense on the penalty kill just from his straight line speed, and he's around the net his tipping and his savvyness with his stick and play making, a little like tkachuk in front of the net, but he's not afraid to go to the front of the net and he's skilled and creative with the tips. His forehand, and his backhand. He's not easy to move. We'll have to see it in this series, but I have no doubt he'll be standing in front of the blue when the puck is in the zone and darting up and down the ice. >> Jennifer: you talked about the rangers' d, the panthers take pride in being hard to play against, but you look up front and barkov and certainly, you need your leaders to be great. Barkov is coming off his second round where his most productive

postseason of his career. To me, there's effort here, finding the space. You have three players on him. He's still finding a way to finish, but he's also just won his second selke trophy, so you know there is always a two-way game that he's going to play. This was a massive shot block late in the game six to maintain the tie, forsling scored late in that game, but look at tkachuk. He's over there and stays there next to him. Pats him on the back, on the knee. They recognize the type of player that barkov is, and you know what barkov also said coming in to this season, I'm always ready for the next challenge. He talked about coming in being a bit more lean, even in better shape than he's ever been in, so not only playing great through the regular season but peaking at this point of the demanding postseason playing at his very best. >> Luke: you mentioned the word "great" a couple of times and I stumbled across a q & a with vincent trocheck who was drafted by and spent parts of be seven seasons with the florida panthers, and someone asked why he picked 16 and he associated that with greatness, his teammate sasha barkov in the time he spent there. Of obviously his teammate rubbed off on him in very positive ways. This guy does it all. One of the reasons is his job on the penalty kill, he's out there over the boards first time every time, always gets in lanes, blocks a ton of shots. He's an absolute gamer for this new york team. There he is setting up the O.T. winner from panarin. This is his double O.T. winner, game two versus carolina, and in game six, the series-clinching game, he scores on the powerplay where he is also on the first unit. He does it all for the rangers. There's no active remaining forward that plays more than trocheck. He also leads them in hits, faceoffs, takeaways, and points. I mean, some pretty crucial categories. So he just does it all for the rangers. >> Kevin: I was doing individual player/coach meetings with my 16 and 17-year-old the other day and I said, if you're going to be a small forward, you have to be either really fast or really strong and fearless and go to the net. He's not really, really fast, about why is he so effective? He's fearless. He goes to the net, he's got a great skill set but he's not afraid to go to the dirty areas. >> Ron: paul maurice, head coach of the florida panthers, is with shawn McKENZIE. >> You recently said each playoff series has its own identity. Are there any adjustments you would like to make matching up to the new york rangers in game one? >> Not beforehand. We have a game, they have a game, we're both going to apply it and re-assess how that worked as it happens between periods. There's strengths on both teams and you have to find a way to show that. At the same time, you can't be going in the wrong direction, you have to respect what the other team is good at as well. >> You talked about the personality in your dressing room. You said unique, I believe weird was one of the words thrown around. When you get to this time of year in your experience, what type of personalities does it take to have success in the playoffs? >> Well, weird is I think accurate. It's kind of maybe why I fit here. You want to come to that rink with an expectation. I don't want to say a hope because that's not it but a belief that good things can happen. I know that sounds very simple, I learned that from sam reinhart. We were talking about another player on the team that was struggling this year and said some days you come to the rink and you just don't feel like anything good can happen when you get in one of those slumps. You get in the playoffs and you come to the rink with a feeling that something good can happen tonight and you feel that collectively. >> Thanks for the time. >> Ron: florida took care of tampa in five, boston in six, the new york rangers got through washington in a sweep and carolina in six games. Both are fresh. They wrapped up last week. Steve kozari and daneau o'rourke will step between them when we come back. 'Cause you're so far away a Canadian team hasn't won in over 30 years.
