I'm alicia asquith. >>> For months, controversy has surrounded the alberta government's proposed gender policy, and as the U.C.P. seeks feedback on those changes, that controversy is only deepening. A small group of individual has been approached to be part of consultations but only if they agree to keep conversations confidential. >> From what I'm told, it's the largest 2slgbtq + people in alberta. >> Reporter: but policies could threaten that, policies they are not allowed to weigh-in on. >> The ones that will be most impacted are not ones from affirming safe spaces, and that is a lifelong sentence of pain and suffering. >> Reporter: the province says it is looking at feedback for changes to certain policies. Cbc news has learned alberta's government sent 40 invites to physicians serving in gender affirming care, but to attend, you have to sign a nondisclosure agreement. N.D.A.s are tools that governments have used in the past, but some have refused the invites, calling on danielle smith for transparency. >> If she wants to [indiscernible] as a direct result of these policy proposals. [ ] >> Reporter: this comes as more than a dozen 2slgbtq + groups in alberta banned conservatives from attending their events. The U.C.P. declined an interview about the pursuit event ban, instead stating that the party supports and celebrates all albertans. The alberta serious incident response team is now investigating and no further details will be released.

Terri trembath, cbc news, calgary. >> Alicia: well, the province is no strangers to grizzly bears, and one institute has been monitoring the at-risk species for decades. Wallis snowdon has more. >> Reporter: grizzly bears are in the rockies, but their population is classified as a species at risk and has been for years. This year, there's a new study on the bears, and something these furry beasts have in ample supply: their hair. Researchers will be setting up hair snag sites across the province this summer. Trees and sticks are rubbed with a substance that any bear finds irresistible when they move through. >> We're looking to connect, and once [indiscernible] so everybody wins. We get our hair and the bears get a bit of entertainment out of it, as well. >> Reporter: the results provide a snap shot of bears on the move, their overall age, health, and productivity. The five-year study is in its second season. They hope to track thousands of bears and trace lineages. The government says that their efforts to restore grizzlies to the province are working, and meanwhile, the study hopes that it encouraging more investment in grizzly research. Grizzly bears remain at risk, and biologists say consistent monitoring is critical to conservation and ensuring these critical giants can thrive in alberta.
