Visit scotiabank.com/nevermisshockey >> Ron: always like the moments before a heavyweight fight. Madison square garden built for boxing. >> George: salve fought -- george zavala in there. George foreman,. >> George: fraser. Tim ryan, broadcaster from canada, so great to us on "hockey night in canada" in victoria, tim called that fight march 8th, 1971 at msg. The highest grossing fight ever in that building? Holyfield, lennox lewis, a canadian citizen, 1999. Time for the fight enjoy. [ ] [ Cheering ] [ ] [ Booing ] out here in the field high up on the hill [ Singing ] >> Shawn: hello, everyone. Welcome inside madison square garden where as always the building is electric. But on wednesday night, the florida panthers did what every single road playoff team dreams of doing, they sucked the life out of the crowd. It started with a matthew tkachuk open-ice hit. Shortly after that, it was the tkachuk goal that sent a hush over this msg crowd. Before the final buzzer even went, the rangers' faithful were heading for the exit. But based object their past history -- on their past history and what they did last round, the panthers know exactly what to expect from the rangers here tonight. >> One has an advantage in game two. You have the emotional advantage. The mentality for us is you don't take that deep breath. It's one game. They have the emotional advantage coming into tonight. We have to find a different way to get ours. >> Shawn: the rangers' emotional advantage tonight comes in the form of a 6'7" stick of dynamite inserted into their lineup. Matt rempe is back. He may only play six or seven minutes tonight, but every time he steps on the ice when he delivers that first hit, this msg crowd isn't going to be very silent for long. Puck drop in a few minutes, but first the national anthem. Enjoy, everyone. >> Announcer: we ask you that please rise and remove your hats for the national anthem. Tonight's colours are presented by the new york police department. [ Cheering ] and here to sing the "star-spangled banner," please welcome back grammy awards winning baritone john bransy. [ Cheering ] o say can you see by the dawn's early light what so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous eeght o'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming and the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air gave proof through the night that our flag was still there

o say does that star-spangled banner yet wave o'er the land of the free and the home of the brave [ Cheering and Applause ] >> John: the florida panthers took a bite out of the big apple in game one to draw the first win of the series. And florida's won seven consecutive games in the conference finals. They haven't lost since game five against the penguins in 1996. The rangers have lost five straight games at the conference final where they can draw inspiration from 97 the last time these two teams faced in the post-season when they faced each other. Panthers won that game one that year 3-0. The rangers won the series in five games. Matthew tkachuk had the game winner in game one, becoming the first player in nhl history with four game-winning goals through his first five career contests during the round before the stanley cup final. And new york needs some goals. When they do, they can look to chris kreider who has 47 career playoff goals, which is the most by any current ranger player. It's fleet week here in new york. And the rangers need all-hands-on-deck. Game two at the garden ready to go. Zibanejad won the draw away from barkov. And k'andre miller into the panthers' zone. Barkov after the puck. Played around for forsling. Zibanejad. It's gone to the crease and bobrovsky will cover it up. >> Garry: you heard paul maurice talking that the rangers have a bit of an advantage. All that emotion of game two, when you lose game one at home, for the visiting team, the panthers, you come on this trip to get one of the two. You want to get one game on the road to break that home ice and take it home so the rule of thumb is do you lose a bit of your edge in game two if you win the first one? >> John: trouba tees it up. Rebound! Zibanejad played off the outside of the net. Chytil kicks it back. Miller flips in. Kreider goes after it. He'll finish his check on forsling. Zibanejad with the check for trouba. Hands it off to chytil. Back to trouba. His shot doesn't get through as tarasenko will clear it. K'andre miller tagged on. It he'll play for chytil. Pressured by barkov. Heeding holds on to it. Drops it back. Chytil holds on to it. [ Chanting ] panarin tips it into the panthers' zone. Anton lundell goes after it. He's chased by panarin. Montour cuts in past trocheck. The loose puck and poke it around the boards. Carter verhaeghe tried to chop it out. That was blocked by fox. Trocheck trying to feed that puck towards panarin. Broken up and matthew tkachuk will carry it back into the zone. Tkachuk can't get the shot through. Panarin is on it. Long pass ahead at centre and now brought in over the line. Trocheck holds off tkachuk and he gets it in deep as forsling is up with it. Forsling will hold on to it. >> Garry: coaches will tell you, john, give them what they expect. The rangers know what they have to do. Florida knows what's coming. So give them what they expect. >> John: bennett trying to get a shot through. It's off the pad of shesterkin. Loose in front. And picked up and brought out by cuylle. Batted out of the air by aaron ekblad. Good hand-eye coordination there. Gustafsson will feed it across and schneider dumped it in. Cuylle after the puck. Brings it around the boards. It went off the stick of roslovic and carried back by bennett. He'll play it into the rangers' zone. Shesterkin out of the box -- or out of the net to get it, I should say, as it's cleared around and down the ice. And that's going to be an icing call against new york as matt rempe is out on the ice for his first shift. >> Garry: pretty good start for the rangers here. They win this face-off and then all of a sudden they got the shot to the net. Doesn't get to the net. Comes right over to zibanejad and that's a pretty good chance for them. And then right here, they have to disrupt florida's breakouts. They exited way too easy in game one. Good job by trocheck getting in. Disrupting. Turn the puck over. >> John: panthers won the drive. Larson got it back for reinhart as high shot ends up over the glass. >> Garry: peter laviolette said he didn't feel like they were getting overrun like he did in parts of the carolina hurricanes' series. He felt like the game was very evenly matched. It came down to a few things. It always comes down to goaltending. Always comes down to execution. And an unfavourable bounce. Those are the kind of things you have to try to turn it around, but you have to change your own

luck. We'll see if the rangers can do that here in game two. >> John: stenlund against barclay goodrow. Goodrow won it. Dropped back. And flipped out. Kulikov knocked it down at centre. Cousins is there. He'll turn and dump it back in. Off the stick of gustafsson as shesterkin will play it. Cousins knocked it down. Vacated by gustafsson. Vesey on it. Played for barclay goodrow. He dumps it in. Kulikov trying to get to it on the boards. Vesey was there. Cousins up with it. He's knocked down by rempe. Lomberg trying to work his way in. Ryan lomberg to the net. To the play. Montour is checked as rempe goes after him. Vesey to the point. Kept in. Cousins snapped it towards the goal hits a body. Back for miller. [ Chanting ] >> [together]: rempe, rempe, rempe! >> John: chytil up with it. He'll send it across. Zibanejad brings it in. Drags the puck. Towards the net. It's wide. Takes that loose for barkov. He'll hand it off for tarasenko and he backhands it in. Got away from a shesterkin behind the goal. Jacob trouba feeds it up for chytil. He controls it now. Chytil long shot. That goes wide. Forsling here for reinhart. Zibanejad kept it in. Now it comes through centre. Zibanejad is on it. He'll hand it off for chytil. Tipped away by barkov. Cleared out for florida as reinhart will knock it in. Carter verhaeghe on it. He's knocked down. Check by lindgren. Panarin with it. Trying to feed it through centre. Tkachuk got in the way. Now it's lifted in. Bobrovsky out of the net. Catches that one on his blocker and he'll get a whistle. >> Garry: game six versus boston, lomberg was inserted in the lineup along with cousins and he brings some great energy, physicality. He's the kind of guy, not a big guy, but goes into big-guy areas. Nice save by shesterkin. And a clean breakout for chytil who joins that number one line tonight and he is a very talented guy. I mean, he can centre a line on his own. Putting him on the line, he gets a little more talent maybe offensively than a guy like roslovic has. >> John: forsling, the pass ahead for tkachuk. He works it through centre down the ice. Fox is back. Icing the call against the panthers. >> Announcer: download the betting app and find out why it's never ordinary at bet365. >> Garry: one thing they have to do is get more traffic in front of bobrovsky. Game one, there just wasn't enough. I can only remember one real scramble in the third period around bobrovsky. That was the only chaos that we saw, john. There wasn't enough. >> John: forsling flips it in the air. He'll get it out to centre. Tkachuk tried to swipe at it. Good stop by gustafsson. Panarin hands it off. Trocheck centres up front. Scores! [ inaudible ] >> Garry: well, this is all because of verhaeghe. Long after the goal went into the net, verhaeghe takes a crack at one of the ranger players in front. And all the shenanigans and this spassal gets going. The -- schemozzle -- the garden will feed off this. As the referees and linesmen will try to separate them here. What a big goal for the new york rangers. [ Chanting ] to open this up. What a beautiful pass by fox who's been fairly quiet so far. People thinking maybe he's a bit banged up. Not 100%. And trocheck will do the glove tap all along the bench. Scoring first, so important. Nice job on the entry. Here's where the problem happens. Verhaeghe gets run into by lafreniere and lundell is already leaving the zone. So that leaves fox all by himself, and then it's a nice pass across. There's a hit on lafreniere from verhaeghe. He's not happy about lafreniere taking him down, and that's what the rangers need. They need that physical first presence be all the way in. Don't just put your big toe in the water. You have to jump right in all the way. And they'll have a discussion here at centre ice and try to figure out what everyone had a look at. But there's no doubt that verhaeghe was upset that lafreniere had knocked him down,
