Dude, did you know BetMGM has responsible gambling tools, so you don't get carried away? I never get carried away. Well there were the bobbleheads. And the playoff beard. Chili's ready. Those tools could really help. Don't forget about the backyard rink. Yeah these tools are pretty great. BetMGM is committed to making gambling safe and fun with responsible gambling tools. So you don't get carried away. >> Garry: it's been since 1997 that they haven't played each other in the playoffs. It doesn't take much. As soon as this game started, the physicality started, both teams trying to get an edge and let the good players on the opposing team know they're not letting them off the hook. Especially on the forecheck on the "d." you want to wear the "d" out constantly, wear and wear and wear them out. If the series goes long, that's where you're going to make a difference. >> John: this is all part of the series finding its identity here, as they always do. Rangers have gone 14 and a half minutes in between shots. This play is blown down. It will be brought back to the rangers zone. >> Garry: we know from doing the series florida/boston that the panthers can really shut down the shot volume. It's one thing the bruins struggled with. Four of the six games they had 18 or fewer shots, and tonight we're already well close to the end of the second period, the rangers with only ten shots. >> John: mikkola will hand it off, reinhart had it picked off of the boards. Miller has got it. K'andre miller over the line, sends it over for panarin. Panarin checked by barkov. Mikkola now battles for it. Miller got it down in the corner. Hopped over the stick of kreider, zibanejad trying to find it. Kreider up with the puck. Kreider left it for trouba. Down to zibanejad, tried to get it back. Turned over. The panthers have it as barkov gets to centre. Barkov dumps it around. Reinhart bumped by miller. Verhaeghe around there hoping it comes free. Now it does and he's got it. Zibanejad right on top of him. Knocks it loose for lundell. Ekblad to forsling. Forsling's shot stopped by shesterkin and he covers it up as verhaeghe was cutting across the crease. >> Garry: 2:32 to go in the second period and the one thing that the florida panthers have been absolutely perfect on is they're 7-0 when tied or leading after the second period. They would love to take this 1-nothing lead or more into the intermission, and then you have to look at the rangers and you've got to say, look it, they've had five comeback wins in these playoffs out of the eight games they've won, and they had 28 during the regular season, which was number one. A lot of storylines as we approach the end of this second period. >> John: lundell won the draw. Forsling up with it, thrown towards the net, vesey off the boards and out. A race for it here. Forsling back after it. Kakko chasing him, but it's cleared to the point. Off the stick of fox. Lundell heads to the rink, wide, dump it is in. Shesterkin throws it down, lindgren tying to tie up carter verhaeghe. Verhaeghe throws it for tkachuk and he shot it wide. Verhaeghe after the rolling puck again, back to the point, ekblad over for tkachuk. Goodrow gave the stick away and now verhaeghe has got it once again. Centred in front for lundell. He was tied up by lindgren and now shesterkin will cover it up. >> Garry: nice job by shesterkin. He knows already that he's got a guy missing a stick as goodrow hands his stick off to lindgren who lost his stick. It was a block by goodrow and he felt that as well. He'll retrieve his stick and that puck caught him in the lower part of his body.

the area I don't think you want to talk with very often, but I think he felt it pretty good, but he remained strong and upright through the whole shift. Good on him as the rangers with 1:51 trying to get this thing tied up at one before the break. >> John: trocheck won the draw, schneider will lift it out at centre. Ekman-larsson stopped it. Played it right back in. The rangers' zone, but that's going to be an icing call. >> Garry: well, an icing, and icings are never the things you want to take this late in the period. You'd rather keep it in the other end of the ice. Here's goodrow handing off his stick. My bad, it caught him in the right hand and most likely had that right hand protecting himself and that's why it got him there, and good on him. That's just smart hockey. >> John: smart shot blocking. Panarin trying to get it, off the skate of kulikov, came in front, fox with the shot and that got blocked. Kulikov will get it away. Ekman-larsson will touch the puck and the rangers are going to get their first powerplay of the night on a holding the stick call! >> Garry: you've never heard a crowd get so excited for a powerplay! They know the powerplay for the rangers has been an engine. It's been driving them in these playoffs, especially teams -- bennett will take the first penalty as he grabs the stick of fox right there. He tries to disguise it the best he can, but it's not enough. The referee picks it up and the rangers will have 1:26 in the second period to try to knot this up. Yeah, they'll have some time in the third, but boy, oh, boy, they'd love to knock the roof off this place before the third period starts and get this thing all knotted up. 31% on the powerplay in these playoffs. >> John: and the panthers have killed off 18 of the last 19 powerplays against them over the past seven games. So strength versus strength. Break on this one, stopped by bobrovsky. Zibanejad [Inaudible] around the glass it goes and it's cleared out down the ice. Fox goes back to get it. Fox drops it back, panarin follows up with it. Panarin to the line, had it knocked off the stick. He'll get it back. Trocheck throws it in front. Nobody was there. Stenlund comes up with it. He'll hand it off for luostarinen off his skate at centre ice. Zibanejad lifts the pass over for panarin. Back across for fox. Zibanejad pokes it in. Stenlund's got it and he'll shoot it back down the ice. Shesterkin sets it up for fox. Fox will drop it off. Panarin follows up. Panarin sends it down around behind the net. Kreider was there. Back around the boards for panarin. Panarin side of the goal, kreider got it up, trocheck, fox for zibanejad. Shot blocked, got it for fox, broken up, barkov has got it. Off the leg of trocheck. Trocheck to fox. 9 seconds to go in the period. Fox left it for panarin. Panarin getting some room, hands it off, fox has it, oh, bobrovsky off zibanejad right before the horn! >> Garry: well, the crowd was getting a bit unruly here as they didn't like the fact they didn't have an opportunity and then whammo, you're going to have trocheck off the right side of bobrovsky. I'm not sure if he gets a boot on this or it hits the side of the net, but what an opportunity with almost zeroes on the clock. Oh, yeah, he gets it with the right skate. What a beauty save by bobrovsky to keep it at 1-nothing panthers going into the third period. >> John: shots 9-6 in favour of florida in that second period. Bobrovsky keeps the puck out of the net. Nobody gets on the board in period number two and the tkachuk goal from the first still the only one that stands in this game one so far. Ron and the panel coming up in our intermission. Matthew tkachuk's goal stands up, 1-nothing florida, and the fourth worst goalie in games one of series kevin pointed out. >> Kevin: he was offended by that comment because he's playing unbelievable. >> Jennifer: he must have heard you talking because he's been amazing so far. Look, shesterkin was a busier of the two goaltenders, but you look at the quality of the saves that bobrovsky has made and it was eventful to start the game. Couple high shots, loses his mask, and but stay sharp, what tracking the rebound control, two breakaways, this one forces the shot wide, takes away the angles. Later he gets the breakaway, this one he's facing cuylle, makes a nice save. Assertive to take away the options. That was another chance, a pass to the middle. This is a sharp angled shot through the traffic, but same thing. Finds the rebound and there it is. That's the amazing save here, just to end the second period. He gets across, quick movement and his teammates are there to appreciate the quality of play. Oh, yeah, go ahead. Just the other element of his game, right, being confident, making plays, starting to initiate the breakout. >> Kevin: think about last year, bobrovsky lost his starting job. At 34 years old for a goalie, when you lose your starting job, you could be done. Then he gets back in the series against boston and takes them on the deep run. Now it seems he's playing his best hockey of the year at 35 years old. I love those stories. >> Luke: florida is so aggressive and I like that aggression, but it's biting them a couple times here and not just the forwards, it's mainly on the defensemen, but you'll see a couple clips here. Guys like this, bennett jumping in, which ends up causing a three on two down the other way. New york is very opportunistic on these. They are looking to turn it up in transition and quickly. Montour just a little indecisive and before you know it, new york has turn thds -- turned this in to a two on one. Mikkola has two in a row. He makes a nice play shutting down at the blue line, but he just runs out, gap up ingression and bobrovsky makes a nice save. This one is the breakaway jen showed, mikkola jumping up in the neutral zone. I like their aggression, but new york is really reading on it and getting good chances off it. >> Kevin: rangers' penalty kill kept them in the whole playoffs and again tonight. What do they do differently than everybody else? During the regular season, third best in the regular season, second in the playoffs. This is what most teams do. They do a 1-3 setup. I'm going to focus on entries. They set up a 1-3 right there and invite you to take to one
