now he thinks tanev's got that. Bones says he's gotta take off and fly, he's a weak side winger. Tanev, this hops over his stick to kulak who pavelski's guy should have been. A bit of misfortune and obviously right to draisaitl but again, it was that communication between forward and d. Again, little bit of miscommunication here, jamie benn thinks tanev has this. He's going to swing, he's going to get a bit of speed because he's gotta blow the zone. Puck just sits this, hyman strong on the puck, we know that and it's in the back of the net. So both situations, little bit of a misfortune but also the communication. Bones! [ Laughter ] >> Rick: good job. >> Ron: very good. Just before your zone coverage and how edmonton's done a good job, kris knoblauch. He tries to put out the fire, what was your take on that situation and how he's done? >> Rick: I don't know kris but I think he's done a fantastic job. That was his job right off the bat, put out the fire. Things weren't going very well, they weren't meeting the expectations. I think he went in there and had a great communication, talk with the leadership group, what's wrong here? Is it x and Os, effort, what's missing from the team? I think that came from kris, get everything out on the table, see what was wrong and he's dealt with t he's got that team playing really, really well. He's done a great job and again, I don't know kris but full marks. That's a tough situation to step in, and especially in a canadian market when things aren't going your way. >> Ron: so here's three examples you picked out from the second period. >> Rick: yeah, well that second goal all starts with taking care of the guts of the ice and protecting the net front. Look at edmonton, got all five guys down by the net. They scored because they took offense from good team defence. Yeah, they get a lucky break here but it started with taking care of guts of the ice and the net front, offense and good team defence. On the rush, again you have to have communication here. The back check, dallas is stretched them out. Great communication there, you want your d to squeeze, d to take the middle lane drive when they too. The forward's responsibility is is to pick up the late guy. There has to be trust and communication with the d on the forward. Here's a different look, a four-on-three, but draisaitl's draisaitl's gotta pick up seguin, head on the shoulders, look around, find that late guy. They did a really good job defending against that as well. >> Luke: guts of the ice, haven't heard that in a while, coaching term. Edmonton's pk, this could be a different game. You're a big fan of them. Two clips here, the entry and the end zone. First up the entry. Nuge attacks away the seam in the middle of the ice and then they just squeeze off, righters, a 1-3 with where they stand on the line. Ryan mcleod is an excellent penalty killer, and what they do is cut the ice in half. There's lots of communication, you see foegele pushes him down the flank, mcleod is protecting the middle and here a little communication. It comes from foegele in the back too telling him to go. Go, go, go, pressure. They get the stop, and now it's out of the ice. It's all talk, sticks, and communication. What do you see rick, what do you like from the penalty kill? >> Rick: the pressure and reading really well. You hear power plays, you have to make three or four kick passes, edmonton is not letting them do that. They're pressuring them so hard. They're reading off each other and dangerousing each trusting each other. >> Kevin: probably a reason mcleod is still in the line-up. Five-on-five he's okay, but do we have the bouchard clip now? Bouchard's going to make a smart play. Roberto luongo, who would he yell all game? Get out of the way. He thought he could make any save he could see. He didn't like a d in the way ten feet away screening him and bouchard's going to realize, if I step aside, it's an easy save for skinner which he does. This isn't a flamingo. He knows what he's doing here and this makes it a very easy save and a whistle. In he stands there, he tries to block from distance it hits him, goes through him and in. It was hard to hear louie yell all the time. >> Rick: he he he wanted to see the puck. If you stand there, make sure 100 percent you block the shot. >> Ron: when he came in it was the islanders, ciara, and all these giants. He hated it. Gene and elliotte. >> Gene: ron and panel, chris tanev who blocks a lot of shots was joking this morning, 9-6, first game of the battle of alberta 2022. Chris has a chance for redemption, he's so good with esa lindell but something different happened tonight for those two compared to previously in the playoffs. >> Elliotte: yes, per natural stat trick, played 130 minutes five-on-five in the playoffs this jeer. The first 13 games against two very good teams, vegas and colorado, gave up just two goals

five-on-five. In a 3:19 span of the second period early, the oilers scored twice against that pair. Kevin and rick just showed the breakdowns but that's a great omen for edmonton if they can score against that duo. >> Gene: I'm a soccer fan so for a while the score was 2-nil. Speaking of jim nil and ken holland, that's the story between these -- what's the story between these guys? >> Elliotte: I leave the studio ron, I can't escape the puns, it's you and gene, I can't get anywhere without him. Jim nil and ken holland, everybody knows about them this detroit and they said hi on the night before the series last night and won't talk again which is pretty normal but also go 1975-76, medicine hat tigers. Nils later the captain, he had 16 points, his first season in the western hockey league. They lost to victoria in the second round of the playoffs. Pete peters was the other goalie with holland and then kelly hrudey came. What's this picture? >> Gene: ken, darren helm, chris osgood and nil. Holland told us yesterday about not hiring kris knoblauch in 2017-18 to be the coach of the grand rapids griffins. He interviewed him in a hangar. You doesn't want to leave anybody hanging now considering what knoblauch's been able to do. He needs to do more of it for the oilers to make a 1-nothing series lead tonight. >> Ron: thank you, gene, and sorry about the puns elliotte. We thought you were a freed man.
